Said it before....if the lad wants Prem football now's his chance because he may not get another one. I wonder if Monk has gone cool on the idea because he's prevaricating? Just a thought, but Monk has said he only want players who want to be here. This guy needs to make his mind up and pronto.
Garry Monk optimistic Swansea City can land two more signings By South Wales Evening Post | Posted: August 28, 2014 GARRY Monk is hopeful that Swansea City will secure two more senior recruits before Monday's transfer deadline. Monk is in the hunt for a left-back and an attacking player after filling vacancies in central defence and the heart of midfield by landing Federico Fernandez and Tom Carroll. And the Swansea boss is optimistic that he will take his tally of summer signings to ten in the next few days — while the club also expect to seal a deal for development player Modou Barrow. "I hope we can get things finalised — I'm trying to do that," Monk said. "It's never easy, there are a lot of issues with every deal but hopefully we can get something mopped up as soon as possible. "I've already said we need one or two more and hopefully we can get it done this week. "The squad is looking good but I still feel every team at this level should have two players competing for every position. "We have some younger lads who will be very good in the future, but in terms of first-team experience and having enough to go straight into the team, we need two in each position and we haven't got that quite at the moment. "That's why we need one or two more." There has been continued speculation linking Swansea with Montpellier midfielder Benjamin Stambouli, but Monk is happy with his options in that department having signed Carroll on a season-long loan from Spurs. "Midfield is pretty much sorted with Tom and Jay (Fulton) coming back," he added. "Jay looked a little rusty against Rotherham but needed the minutes and he will get better and sharper and hopefully he'll compete for a place in the first-team squad." Monk has batted away links with Sochaux's Cedric Bakambu despite the striker claiming he has an offer to join the Liberty club. Swansea, meantime, have indicated that reports claiming they will pay around £1.7 million for Ostersunds youngster Barrow are well wide of the mark. The 21-year-old is though likely to join before the window closes.
Time will tell who was right or not,GM or the majority of fans. It has been plain to see that we are missing LB badly, and that neither Carroll/Fulton nor Ki/Shelvey are the answer to our defensive midfield whilst Britton is out injured.
You could interpret "Midfield is pretty much sorted" to mean we're trying to get someone but we're not confident we'll actually get him. Sounds a little ambiguous but ultimately resigned to the situation. I could be trying to read too much into it of course!
I think everyone agrees that we need a tough tackling defensive midfielder to fill the gap in front of the back four. Leon is at the age where a long career means that wear and tear is going to cause more injuries.
1w looks like me might be going to Spain. http://www.getfootballnewsfrance.com/2014/timothee-kolodziejczak-close-to-sevilla-move/
Laudrup played Amat in that postion in the West Ham game with Britton on the bench if Im not mistaken , key to Laudrup's dismissal imo .Strangely , Monk played Amat there also , not sure if it was Monks first game in charge , but would be within a few games of Garry taking over .Then never played there again
That's about right I think RJ. Laudrup put Amat there in the WH game and I think he (Amat) was largely responsible for their goals. DM is a specialist position. You can't just put any big bloke there. Leon excels for us in this position, whereas Canas was a loose cannon, and neither Ki nor Shelvey are natural DMs either. So we have to hope either Carroll or Fulton steps up to the mark pretty quickly and grabs the position by the throat (or Strambouli signs ... ?)
Given the limited time these players have had it's impossible to tell who will be a success but on what I've seen they are very different. Neither seems to offer what Leon. Carroll plays like Joe Allen and could fit in immediately Fulton struck me as a space filler and didn't really impress me at all. Some were raving about him after 20 minutes last season but I think that had nothing to do with his play. We really do need another first choice DM. Another wing is not as important.
Theres only one Loen Britton when it comes to defensive midfielder at SCFC , everyone else is a reasonable facsimile at best campionijack.
