    Here's why

Because we won't have spunked millions on a panic buy and in my opinion if your an average team like us instead of panic buying we might as well do averagely with the players we have instead of wasting money. We should set an example along side Southampton and let the rest of the league know you don't have to spend tens of millions to stay in the league.

just because we have wasted money in the past doesnt mean any money spent now would be a waste. we have a paper thin squad outside our first team and reinforcements are definatly needed. spending money now is better then not spending it and getting into another relagation scrap

There is a difference between staying in the league and being competitive in the league! Surely you guys have had enough of just making up the number (or adding entertainment to a relegation scrap) and want to be competing at the right end.

Who do u support, you need to realise that we're never going to win the league or get in the top six but what i was getting at was that we can stay in the league comfortably with an average squad not talking about relegation battles.

we do and that will take some investment, but it has to be invested the right way. as doug says we have spunked **** loads of cash not only on buying players but paying them silly wages under previous managers. i have faith in gus and think any money he spends will be well spent on players who can improve us and help us push on up the league. every football fan wants success but we need to do it one step at a time, we cant use the man city or chelsea model and just buy success so we have to be smarter about it and make sure we get the most out of every £ spent

Apart from 5 years QWOP's lot have been Shi*e and I am 50 year old, agree with you Duncan, we (and Newcastle) are the Bilbaos/Levantes against Barca and Real, we all make numbers up. (50 years without a Trophy ! Ha'Way )

I also think the key ingredient to success is having a more professionally run club from top to bottom and this window has proved things have changed

with the money the top 4 get there's pretty much no chance of catching them. they have all invested heavily in this windows and other teams just cant compete with that. the best we can do is hope for top 8 and the uefa cup or come home with the fa or league cup. every season the top 4 get further away from us as they can continually spend big money to improve/maintain thier squad. i think most of our fans would be happy with not being stuck in a dog fight every year doing well in the cups and not getting beat of the scum. we would all love to win the league but realisiticly its never going to happen. there is only a certain level of success that we can acheive but we need to look at the everton formula as they have done really well for a team that hasnt spent much in recent times and seem to be run on a shoe string (compared to other clubs).

you dont have to go back long to see **** players signed for big money and given stupid wages for their limited talent. short seems to have clocked on to this and is trying to do the right thing. he should be applauded for it. if we are ever going to be succesfull we needs to stop repeating the mistakes of the past and find a smarter way of doing our business. the only problem is that we seem to be competeing for every player were after with 4-5 other teams who might be willing to pay silly money for middle of the road players. we need to make the most of our scouting network and start uncovering these players earlier and develop them and get a few good season out of them before selling them on for a good profit. its not ideal but for me its better to have good players for a few seasons and make some money rather then never having them at all

they are the 2 main examples of money they have spent but they havent spent money on other big players. for a team that is always in the top half of the league their spend is relatively low

I think we have made some good signing to be honest. We could give up and not bother but the thing about football is you just never know what can happen. Last night a centre half scored a pen then saved to others to put his team in the champions league. We made it to a cup final last year, one of my best experiences being a sunderland fan was walking out of Wembley Park tube station to see a sea of red n white down Wembley way. That was last season with PDC's players. This season with Gus's players who knows??

We probably won't do anything this season but then again we just might and I am up for the rollercoaster ride.

aye mate wembley was class and i will never forget that day dispite the result. we need more days like this as we have been starved of any kind of success for far too long. i think the penny has really dropped with ellis and he is really trying to make us a better club from the ground up. i have the upmost confidence is gus and feel that with the right support he can take us to new heights but it wont happen overnight and we need to gradually build our squad and our profile so we can attract higher profile players to our great club

Each to his own... Personally, I'd be more impressed if we signed van Dijk, Alderweireld, Alvarez, and Borini. But maybe that's just me...

I would have been happy with that a few years ago but now after so many disappointments I'm not. Things will never change because in football they never do. We could sign all of those players and still do nothing.

Why do you even bother? You've clearly fallen out of love with the game. Just seems like you're torturing yourself. Have you tried darts?

You never come across very supportive. You're like a bad father who constantly tells his son he'll never amount to anything. Are you a depressive? not having a dig just trying to understand what's making you tick. You seem devoid of hopes and dreams.
