More about no defensive cover by the midfield. Gerrard is just not a Defensive midfielder and doesn't offer the cover the CB's need. Citeh were a perfect example last night, Fernando covered his defenders, tackled, stayed in position, did the leg work and had the pace to cover the gaps. DM is a position that needs a player who can run about and can put in hard tackles without having to support the forward line (like Hendo and Allen are expected to do). BR needs to stop kidding himself that Gerrard can do this role and buy a DM that's actually good (or play Can)
Exactly. Defenders are always getting grief when it's lack of cover by midfield esp Gerrard that's the cause of many problems (Johnson being the exception..deserves all the grief he gets) . We need a DM urgently but don't think we will get one now. Would Can be able to do it..not sure. He looks a bit lacking in pace which is a real surprise for me
I am not sure he would accept the job but I think trying to sign Steve Clarke as defensive coach. He did a good job last time if I remember correctly.

Lucas 2 years ago was very good. Remember one game against City where he just dominated against Toure in that midfield.
