I think it was Christopher Hitchens who made the point that one of the hardest things for anyone to accept is that his or her own side were wrong in a war. Taking that into consideration I think my side were absolutely ****ing correct. Up The Ra.

So, unless you're mankind's greatest hypocrite, you'll want all orange bands jailed?

    Quite a big admission, Medro.

    Well done <applause>

Unionist lecturing anyone on sectarianism <laugh>

Galloway called it right last week, the DUP lecturing anyone on good relations is like the Hunchback of Notre Dame telling you to stand up straight.

You're side were correct to surrender?

People get prosecuted for the famine song. This is 10 times worse.

    Quoting George Galloway <laugh>

Bit of a broad generalisation there Ciaran, I am a unionist and I've never been racist or sectarian in my life.

I know isn't it and it's funded by the City Council too. I'm not saying cancel the event but maybe no need to invite back racists like this.

£33,000 police bill for Orange Walk

    Published: 22 Aug 2014 09:00

HELENSBURGH’S Orange Walk cost the taxpayer more than £33,000 to police, the Advertiser has learned.

The bill for supervising the four-hour long event – which was revealed through a Freedom of Information request – is substantially lower than a similar event held in Dumbarton in 2009, which cost £107,000. But the area’s MSP Jackie Baillie still believes the money could have ‘been better spent elsewhere’. Ms Baillie added: “The march went ahead despite clear opposition from church leaders, the community council and the wider Helensburgh and Lomond community.

“It is important that we find the right balance between the right of individuals and groups to demonstrate while upholding the rights of communities to be protected from huge policing costs for marches they didn’t even want in the first place. “The cost of policing is lower than the 2009 event in Dumbarton but it is still £33,000 which could have better spent elsewhere.” The parade, organised by the County Grand Orange Lodge Ayrshire, Renfrewshire, and Argyll saw 3,500 people march through the town, with thousands more lining the streets in support on June 28. Over the course of the day, four arrests were made for minor offences, and several spot fines issued by Police Scotland officers – mainly for public drinking offences.

Stewards accompanied the march freeing up police officers to concentrate on street drinking and drunkenness, anti-social behaviour, and any sectarian behaviour. Chief Inspector Gary Stitt and Chief Superintendent Barry McEwan – the area’s most senior police officers — were both present on the day alongside more than 100 officers on foot, bike, horse back, in cars, vans, and on motorbikes. A police helicopter also flew above the town whilst officers monitored the parade on CCTV cameras to ensure public safety. The parade was made up of 40 bands from all over Ayrshire, Renfrewshire, and Argyll and invited guest Reverend William McCrea MP from Ulster was speaking at the event.

Although the march itself passed without ‘major incident’, on the Friday night ‘IRA slogans’ were painted on one Helensburgh street, although but this was removed before the parade began. And plans for the walk met strong opposition in the town when announced earlier this year, with almost 200 objections received by Argyll and Bute Council based on potential disruption to community life, noise, and fears of disorder. Councillor Vivien Dance spoke on behalf of more than 200 residents who opposed the march at the planning meeting when the parade was given the go ahead. She told the Advertiser this week, she felt ‘heart sorry’ for the businesses who were affected.

She added: “Police Scotland has an obligation to provide cover for events such as this, so they have to find resources within their budget to do it but I am sure everyone will have their own view about whether this is good use of the public pound. “What bothers me more than this though is the economic impact on the town’s businesses which no one seemed to consider when agreeing to this procession. Many shops recorded their quietest trading day ever, some even closing before lunch because there were no customers on a normal busy Saturday, many sending staff home and working with reduced cover.

“There is no doubt that local shoppers just stayed out of town, I saw this for myself on the day. “I am also still working with council officers on damage done by the legacy of graffiti at the west end of town and the cost of further work on this on top of that on the day done by our local operational services team. “This is never calculated when considering the procession application. “Perhaps this is something that can be learnt and used by others in future when determining the impact on the life of the community when granting consent for all events which come to a town.”

State schools are as ****e over here as they are in England. The better results overall are down to a higher percentage of Catholic schools.

Whilst the Taig is studying for their exams William is collecting wood for a bonfire or practising on their flute.
