I'm expecting Angel will play left wing. Di will play behind the striker and Maria will play on the right wing! <ok>

That we're signing a genuine world class player when everyone thought we were finished and noone would want to come to us because we are not in Europe

Like when he was subbed at half time v Atletico at home

Was he the stand out player when he was subbed at home to Barca, outshining Messi'a hat-trick?

Or subbed early in the loss at Nou Camp and draw at the Calderon

Is he all that? Not saying he's a bad player but this is an example of "world-class" being too readily used. Would he make a World XI? I guess it's a matter of opinion but I don't believe so. Would he have even been a regular for Real this season?

It's hardly like our defence is strong enough though, even against the small sides to be left with no cover on the wing.

This is you assuming that the 60 million pounds is all the money we have left though. By the noises Ed Woodward has been making if a top centre half becomes available then the money will be there to buy him. The problem isn't the money, it's finding a top quality centre half who is available to buy. We tried for Hummels and Vermaelen, but those deals didn't come off for us, so well have to remain patient on that front and hope one becomes available for us

I don't think money is the problem, just availability. Most of the top class CBs don't seem to be available this summer, hence PSG were willing to fork out £50m for Sideshow cos he was up for sale. No point missing out on a top class player just because we also need to buy another top class player. We will still have enough cash left to get Benatia if he really isn't going to Bayern.

    Di M in La liga.

    One goal in 6.
    77 per cent pass accuracy
    22 per cent cross accuracy
    Most subbed player
One assist in 2.5 games (not great playing for Real in La liga maybe??)

You say that's not great yet he had the highest number of assists for Real Madrid last season while he was apparently being subbed a lot.

You have to remember that the manager at Real Madrid doesn't buy the players, the President of the club does. Carlo Ancelotti wanted to keep Di Maria and rated him very highly, but the club wanted James Rodriguez after he had such a good world cup showing. They were always going to be more open to let Di Maria leave before Ronaldo and Bale and having just signed, Rodriguez isn't going anywhere any time soon either. He's left because Real have too many riches not because he isn't one of them.

Minutes per assist and per goal stats would be more useful. As those stats kind of contradict one another as if he's not playing a full game every game, either being subbed off or coming from the bench then those stats aren't really a fair reflection of his returns:biggrin:

That's the point that many fans don't get when they say United shouldn't have paid £60M for him because that is too much even though he is a brillant player.

Money is no object as far as United is concerned at this point in time. They are prepared to throw money at the problem. It is simply that they currently cannot afford NOT to. United can spend hundreds of millions and still stay within FFP rules. On top of it, massive sponsorship deals have targets of reaching the CL. So that there is massive incentive in getting the top players to imp[rove the team and the squad.

If a top CB is available, United will again pay the asking price. They will break the record for a defender if they have to. It is no longer the right price or VFM. IT is the right player at whatever asking price.

This is the result of years of failing to reinforce the midfield and the defence and Woodward and Moyes proscrastination last summer.

Second highest number of assists in La Liga over the past few years, Messi was highest. Not sure where Fabregas was. Lower down as he was a bit part player.

Problem is, SAF never rolled like that.
He never made ridiculous signings of that ilk, yeah he spent big a couple of times (chiefly on Veron and Rio) but was never the kinda manager to spank £50-60m on one player like Real seem to do on an annual basis now.
He was always about signing young talent and nurturing them in to great players that fit the squads requirements (Nevilles, Butt, Giggs, Beckham, Scholes, Ronaldo etc).
I think the GG's may have expected Moyes to come along and manage along a similar vein, but the kind of talent SAF had is very rare and it was always doomed to fail.
Admittedly, he had let the squad lapse in his last couple years, but still managed to sign off with a title win.
It is telling however, that as soon as he leaves, United need to spend a **** ton of bucks to compete, which they haven't had to do previously, which is part of the reason United have been so financially successful as they have been.

That's pretty outstanding tbh. When you consider the top assist providers in the PL (assuming http://www.statbunker.com/alltimestats/AllTimeCompetitionMostAssists?comp_code=EPL is accurate):

    Giggs - approx 1 in 4.5
    Gerrard - approx 1 in 4.75
    Lampard - approx 1 in 4.5
    Rooney - approx 1 in 3.5
    Henry - approx 1 in 3.25
    Fabregas - approx 1 in 2.9
    RVP - approx 1 in 4.25

So more creative than any of the top assisters in the PL, despite not being the main source of supply in his early years at Real.

Also not sure where you got the passing accuracy from, as http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...compare-to-most-expensive-transfers-ever.html has him at 82%, higher than Ronaldo, Bale, Suarez and Rodriguez.

He got 17 assists in 34 appearances in the league last season. Impressive.

The stats simply aren't stacking up for the Chelsea lad!
