I can remember being at the game the last time we played each other 1977 they nicked a last minute goal from a corner/cross and the heavy wind carried it into the goal
    It was a massive crowd.
trying to remember who was in goal I think it was Big Ron
Anyone know any others, I hope we put up a good show unlike last weekend, we do seem to bounce back from a bad game.

.Gills must now have a chance of avoiding defeat tonight. It is peeing down on the Coast and if the groundstaff turn the irrigation system on now there is every chance that the Magpies will go home to France empty handed.

Newcastle are everything that is wrong with football today. A team full of foreigners that no one actually knows. Don't care about anything other than preserving their mid table place in the pampers league. How often do they bring through youth? Teams like Newcastle, Stoke, Sunderland, etc should be setting the example of how to bring through the future of the game but no it's far easier to bring in a ready made foreigner. Sorry I really don't know how to put into words my frustration at clubs like Newcastle and how they are run.

If we win tonight (or even put in an effort) I will be so annoyed. To watch the most pathetic and lazy performance on Saturday, to even imply the players were "saving" themselves for tonight would be unacceptable. The league is the bread and butter and players should not be having there head turned b the supposed glamour of the cup. I will be hoping for at least a 6-0 trashing tonight, becoase only then will I be convinced that the players were trying on Saturday and just unfortunatley are rubbish

Not too long until the game now, luckily the rain is meant to clear this evening.I would like to see us go for it as it is a one off cup game and we have nothing to lose.Newcastle really should be beating us comfortably, but anything can happen in the Cups.Taylor may want us to keep it tight and look to hit them on the counter, but I think most fans would prefer to see us go out throwing everything at Newcastle if we do lose.Against a side like Newcastle I fear sitting back would invite Newcastle on to us which could see us losing heavily anyway.I am going to enjoy the game no matter what as it is quite rare for us to play a Premier League side in this Competition.I am expecting a defeat, but there is always that hope in Cup competitions.

I think we will start with both Kedwell and Cody upfront, and we will start McGlashan,Dack,Hessenthaler, and A.Morris.

gemini i totally agree with you about Newcastle having too many foreigners and being bad for English football, that's why i like Hull who have mainly an english team.
BSG i know your frustration but you cannot be serious if you want Gills to lose 6 nil tonight. If we are thrashed tonight it will do nothing confidence wise and with a must win home match on saturday we need a decent effort and could even nick a win as Newcastle are struggling to score.

If we are struggling, play The Marseillaise on the PA . Newcastle players will stand to attention, while Jermain dribbles through to score!

1-0 wasn't a bad a result considering how Newcastle played. Think we defended admirably and looked better when Morris came on. Will give a more detailed reply tomorrow.

if i give a detailed report my brain will explode...Taylor is boring and negative and i'm truly not sure how much more i can put up with this...I knew people would be happy with a 0-1 defeat and Taylor will probably see it as a win <doh>

We lack passion, pace, movement forward and aggression on nothing more than a bunch of glory boys in illuminous shoes...where was Charlie Lee when we needed him (I know the answer)...although i was impressed with Norris...at least he had some balls

I think that the players all played OK, considering the way we set up. We allowed them too much time and we were constantly over loaded down the flanks where Newcastle had 2 against 1 almost all night. I felt alot of sympathy with Hause, its the first time I have seen him and he is clearly not a wing back, I liked Egan the OG was unfortunate but I thought that 3 centre halfs all did well. It's a shame there is no MOTM thread for this game as I would love to have seen Hoadie try justify making Kedwell MOTM for last night! Dack and Hessenthaler are the future for Gillingham and must play as often as possible preferably in a team that goes out to win matches, I also think German and Norris did well when they came on and they look like good options to have coming from the bench.

My man of the match was Dack by a country mile. He was brilliant. He really did show what he could do last night and I hope he continues this form as he will be deadly in this league if he plays like that week in week out.
Hessenthaler was just behind him as man of the match and then I would say Davies in a close third. This is really good to look at considering all 3 of them have come through our system and we are talking about their performance against a Premiership outfit so I think this shows that our system creates some great players.
I hope Davies plays more as he showed last night that he is ready to play as he looked very good next to Legge and Egan.

I think it was hard for Kedwell against Newcastle, he couldn't get into his game the same way as usual which is why I think he went off as we had to change what we were doing upfront and I think Norris and German done alright when they come on. I hope German plays more like that in the league as he looked threatening which is something nice to see.
I hope to see more of Pritchard as I think he looks good on the ball and looks a decent passer of the ball. I think he will become a key player for us this season. I think he isn't at full fitness yet as well so there will be more to come from him so I can't wait until he is at full fitness as that will mean that we will have a lot of options in midfield to choose from.

    I enjoyed the game.

Yes Newcastle had a lot of possession but for the most part we stopped them doing much with it, our defence actually looked like a unit and on the occasions we kept the ball down and played we looked good as a team.
Most of our team are young players that will improve with match time and time together, last night was hopefully the start of that improvement and I'm looking forward to Saturday with anticipation.

Was an average performance as the task was not to get thrashed. We lacked pace but defended pretty well especially second half. Can Kedwell and Cody play together, there seems to be no link up play between the two. Kedwell seems to play in midfield when they play together. Although Dack was the only player who had any creativity for the Gills he also nearly cost the Gills two goals with his poor passes. He will have to keep them to a minimum or could be back out of the side. Davies had a terrific game at the back and should play instead of Hause. Surprised that Hoyte did not play left or right back. Worried about Fish as well, seems uncertain of his position with 3 centre half's.
Expect a less cautions approach on saturday as crewe concede a lot of goals and will be tired after losing in extra time last night.

I didn't think Dack deserved the man of the match. First half a lot of his passes were very sloppy and his decision making wasn't great. Hessenthaler if anything was creating more by picking out Fish or Hause out wide. Unfortunately though they both aren't proper wing backs and I wouldn't call Hause a natural full back either. Fish needs a Right midfielder to offer him the protection as Legge isn't quick enough to get there. I was looking forward to seeing Pritchard play last night but he disappointed me. Tried the long ball method a few too many times and looked nervous. Morris made us look a lot more solid when he came on and we became harder to break down, resulting in them just trying it relentlessly on the wing and hoping someone would beat one of our cb's in the air.

Norris for me was a breath of fresh air in that he injected pace and determination to win the ball back. German looked quick and better on the ball than against Yeovil but still looks incredibly lazy.

Special mention to Callum Davies who was phenomenal yesterday and proved that I haven't just been beating the same old drum.

Davies or Morris motm for me.

I was very disappointed with Fish, he loses the ball far too easily when he ventures forward, and his defending again last night, was poor to say the least. I think he's a way off from being the defender he was two years ago, so maybe a loan spell might help him. Kedwell was ineffective because he's a carthorse. Runs around but the Newcastle defenders had him in thier pockets, and I just don't believe he is a good partner for Cody, but I expect if anyone will be dropped it will be Cody,if Taylor wants to make a change up front. Taylors negative tactics are now getting me down, and I'm finding it difficult to motivate myself to keep going, even though I've got a season ticket. I expect we will beat Crewe ,but it will probably only be by the odd goal, because Taylor will want everyone to funnel back to the penalty area as soon as Crewe get the ball.
