I was multi tasking someone mentioned Haigh in Reply to one of ur posts. For you are right, we should be doing all we can to look after this gut with ebola
Sorry guys, but I stand by what I said. We have no cure for Ebola & are asking for trouble by importing it into this country, no matter how safely we think we're doing it. Excellent care can be obtained in the country where he came into contact with the virus, and that's where he should have remained. Since we're tugging on the heartstrings here, what if something went wrong with his transport, and your families all died in the ensuing epidemic that killed millions in this country? It cuts 2 ways. With something so dangerous, it should be safety first all the way.
There is a cure for Ebola, hence the two yanks last week, But even with no treatment e bola shouldn't be fatal if secondary infections are kept in check with anti biotics in a first world hospital. Try getting some facts before pontificating. According to WHO there is expected to be a 98% survival rate in a western hospital. I understand ur confusion he would be a goner in a jocko hospital.
http://www.who.int/csr/disease/ebola/en/ 2 yanks - experimental treatment ZMapp was given to them in Liberia. Cure - "There is currently no specific treatment to cure the disease" WHO (link above, see FAQ #6). Fatality rate - "Ebola virus disease (EVD) is a severe, often fatal illness, with a case fatality rate of up to 90%" WHO (link above). Fatality rate - "47% survive. In this Ebola outbreak, the survival rate has been higher than previous outbreaks". WHO (link above). 98% survival rate - I cannot find this stated in the WHO website. Perhaps you could provide a link. As you can see from above, I have my facts to hand. I have not pontificated - simply given my opinion. You have not given an opinion - you have pontificated!
Your data is outdated regarding survival rates. I was giving you the latest information as supplied on radio four earlier today. Experimental the treatment might be, but it works. The Liberian hospital was American run and was using western barrier care methods. FTR the royal free hospital in london is a world leader in treating patients in isolation. You spouted hysteria about the risks. Suprised because you don't normally post sensatiolist rubbish.
If I am sensationalist, then so is the WHO. It's their data! I cannot be faulted for quoting them. I forgot that Radio 4 is the 'goto guy' for such information. With regards to your 'cure', the WHO are not using it yet: "West Africa is experiencing the largest, most severe, most complex outbreak of Ebola virus disease in history. On 11 August 2014, WHO convened a consultation to consider and assess the ethical implications for clinical decision-*making of use of unregistered interventions that have shown promising results in the laboratory and in animal models but that have not yet been evaluated for safety and efficacy in humans."
You will be proved right if the poor guy pegs it and there is a connected outbreak in london. Otherwise.......
Ever thought the west might be letting over populated parts of Africa come down in population till they can feed themselves. All about money with the west and Africa don't have any.
Weren't half the world going to die with aids? More bollox from the press, If you go there and catch it,stay there, and get cured, simples.
If I willingly went there, caught the disease buy transmission of bodily fluids,as ebola is transmitted,it would be my fault. Putting other people at risk would be foolish and self centered. Health service here, spain,is miles infront of the uk anyway, but thats another debate.
This guy went as a nurse to work in a hospice. Volunteered to work in the hospital when everyone fecked off. He wasnt shagging em. Nothing self centred about it IMO.
Look, as long as it doesn't end up like 28 days later I think they did the right thing in bringing him back. This country bends over and let's the world **** it up the arse allowing anyone in to seek asylum, claim benefits, use the NHS etc so the least we can do is help one of our own who was literally risking his life to try and help others. Yes he knew there were risks involved and he may still die. No one here is going to catch it unless they do something incredibly stupid.
The guy who went over there took all known precautions, he wore protective clothing and masks I take it? Yet he still managed to catch Ebola as it is that contagious. It is all right to say it won't spread so can anyone explain how he actually caught it?? He went by choice, he should stay and be cured over there, if he dies over there it is sad, if him coming back here went wrong and he infected just two people and they died it is worse, a gamble that should not be taken. Again his choice, he knew the risks
Great country my arse Why are thousands of senior citizens freezing to death every year because they can't afford to heat their homes lets look after them before anyone else.
OLOF,my dear old mum, moved here 6 months ago to spend more time with her grandkids, Her father and grandfather fought in the respective world wars, She has worked all her life ,and owns a house in the UK and paid tax, etc, Her doctor told her she would not be attended if she went back to the UK. WTF?
Totally agree, there's nothing 'great' about Britain anymore. There may have been about seventy years ago, before it became the 51st State of America, but those days are long gone
