I know we bought the kid at the time from a struggling Rotherham side and it was probably as much to help them out as anything else. But from what i have seen, which i may admit it is very little he has looked ok. I know most of us agree that he is to young and that he has no experience, but how is he going to get that experience. Last year we refused to let him go out in case we got injuries, and now we ain't even given him a chance. Surely he deserves a few cup games and a game on our bench? What i am trying to say is this, how do we know if he is ever going to be good enough if we don't give him a chance?

I highly doubt he will get this chance, but until he does we will never know what his true ability is.

I think the question should be, "What's he done".

No way I would trust a young kid who hasn't played any games. I don't even think he'll be our 2nd choice keeper.

But if he does not get any game time surely he can't do anything right or wrong?

I agree he can't be number one, i am not saying that but surely he deserves a run of cup games? Or even a chance to go out on loan?

I'd bring in two keepers, play Cracknell for the ressies and try and get Oxley a League One gig.

Oxley is better than a lot of people give him credit for. We beat off numerous other sides to get his signiture and that was when we were in the PL, so I wouldn't be surprised if you saw him in the first team soon. He warmed the bench last season and NP was happy not to drop him. He will play in the pre seasons - he might have had 45 mins against York (if I remember rightly) and he pulled off a brilliant save or two.

All most of us are saying is that he's not good enough for this level. If he was good enough Nigel wouldn't be in the market for two keepers would he? :emoticon-0111-blush

I hven't seen him play bit from word of mouth i gather he's a good keeper, but it would be unfair on the lad to chuck him in at the deep end with little Championship experience and make him first choice. If he had a bad couple of months it could knock him for 6 and disrupt his progress. He'd benefit from having another keeper or 2 round him for competition and hopefully an older one to give him any guidance.

when he came to us it was painted as quite a coup. England U18 keeper, there were several teams looking to sign him. He did play 3 games on loan for Grimsby in L2, and let in 6 goals.

Grimsby were dire though. One of those things about our youngsters, they rarely seem to get a decent loan move. Featherstone and Cullen have been the same boat. Even Devitt only went to Grim Town. Only Atkinson has really excelled on loan.

Oxley has all the physical attributes as a keeper and looks agile enough. Goalies tens to develop their sense of leadership and decision making late so he's still really young. I'd personally just bring in one goalie, have Oxley around as cover and dip into the loan market if necessary.

Any gurantees he is after two keepers? And i agree he is not good enough to start, so if you read most of what i put i would say i would have him on the bench, just because NP says something doesn't mean i can't have a different opinion to him does it?

I agree you could never throw him in as our first choice keeper, but like i said surely he is worth a place on the bench and a few cup games? Or let him go on loan?

I haven't seen Oxley play, but as the old adage goes "if you're good enough you're old enough". Didn't Casillas make his debut for Real when he was 17 or 18?

He was 18, but he'd already played 30 games for the for Real Madrid B & C teams the season before, which is pretty much what's being suggested on here.

Ah ok. I was just responding to the comments which said that at 20 years of age he shouldn't be thrown in at the deep end in the Championship, although I obviously misread them and what people were actually saying was he's not good enough to be first choice. Sorry!

As I said though, I haven't seen him play and cannot comment on his ability. I agree with the posters that he needs game time, possibly on loan

I've been to see him play several times and I was thinking about it this morning, I can't really remember forming any opinion on him at all.

I went to the reserves a few times, the thing is he goes unnoticed, he hasn't really made any mistakes, but neither has he being called upon to make and miraculous saves, he just looks like a steady keeper to me, only time will tell!

I'd bet his signing on fee and wages would make him more expensive than buying the kid from Huddersfield.
