After the unpleasantness some of us had last night, I think we need some music.

will doubtless get blown out the water here but....my biz is connected to the music industry & has been for 20+years so I feel I am in a position to comment - why do/did the Smiths always sound to me like Johnny Marr (who I rate highly) is playing a fab song & Morrissey always seems to be singing a different song..I've do doubt his lyrics are meaningful to some but he must surely be tone deaf.... I await your abuse you Smiths fans.....
I'm not sure what you mean. Morrissey, albeit a prick, is a fantastic singer and his lyrics are incredibly brilliant. I listen to The Smiths for Marr more than Morrissey though. He's the reason I started playing guitar. For me, him, Hendrix and our lad Ronson are the greatest.
I'm sure Morrissey is a good singer & his lyrics are "poetic" but to me he always seems to be out of tune with the song Marr is actually playing...each to their own I know so could me which I'm happy to accept...also never really understood the dafs in the back pocket job, what was that all about..?
I hate Morrissey and I hate his voice, but I love Johnny Marr. Personally I always tend to go back to the same guitarist. Jimi, Ronson, Pete Townsend, Keith Richards and John Squire. Maybe not the most technical, but all play what's right for the song.
guitarists are what they are - I have played guitar for 40 + years now (Christ, is it that long..?) & until you have a grasp of what tunings they're using then you still wonder why you can't do what they do....drop D tuning, losing bottom E string, etc., they all have their tricks...try playing Brown Sugar with a standard tuned guitar...
I tried to learn Start Me Up and couldn't for the life of me work out how Keef got his hands in them positions to play it in standard tuning. Then I saw a magazine on Open tunings. They had transcription of Start Me Up.
