Danny Welbeck has been told he can leave Manchester United during the final week of the transfer window. The news will be of particular interest to Arsenal and Tottenham, who are both big fans of Welbeck and have checked on his availability in the past. With only two years remaining on his contract, United value Welbeck at around £15 million which would comfortably fit into the budgets of north London rivals Spurs and Arsenal. The 23-year-old can play as a left-sided forward, as he often does for England, or through the middle. He has scored 20 Premier League goals in 90 appearances for United. But with Wayne Rooney, Robin van Persie and Javier Hernandez at the club, new United manager Louis van Gaal has decided Manchester-born Welbeck can leave Old Trafford.
The bid`s not the problem mate. We get hammered every time with wages. Can`t compete on that side of it.
Seems fair to me, can't see Arsenal being interested. £15m is good business if we get it. If we keep him, he's never getting a new contract so with a year left we'll only get £5m for him... sell him now.
I'd guess he'd be on around £80k a week with us, I doubt he'll think he can get that anywhere else though. I'd imagine part of the fee will go to him as a loyalty pay-off so it's not totally out of the question. Edit: Media seem to think it's either £45k or £65k a week... my guess is probably over the top then.
15:14 Sunderland are among those being linked with Danny Welbeck amid reports that he has been told he is free to leave Manchester United, and Gus Poyet has admitted to being a fan of the England international. Keith Downie @SkySports_Keith: Poyet tells SSNHQ on Welbeck: "he's a player who myself and other managers are interested in. We need to wait. We haven't made an approach." Wait for what? Someone else to snap him up? He was great last time he was here, at least as good as Borini. Surely we can pay competative wages where they are warranted? What are we doing with all that TV money?
I will admit to being a bit gutted if we at least didnt match any offers that were made for him. Would massively improve us going forward IMO. If he decides not to join us then so be it.
We could buy welbeck and loan Borini, with possible selling of Whickham or altidore going on loan. I think it will be an interesting last day to the window. I think we are in for the players but have the usual problem of persuading players to move here. At least Welbeck is familiar with us.
When we talk about stability... Andy ‏@SAFCsource 27s Lee Cattermole is the only player who was at Sunderland during Danny Welbeck's loan spell that is still at the club. #SAFC Rather worrying that in my opinion
And another scary fact... Andy ‏@SAFCsource 1m On a similar note, Connor Wickham is Sunderland's third longest serving player (behind Cattermole and Larsson).
"I know what I said to Danny and Danny knows exactly what I said to him. That is private." From LVG's mouth. Read into that what you will, it doesn't give a lot away, aside from the fact that if he was definitely keeping him he'd have said so!
I think if he was keeping him he would of said he is not for sale however reports state that he is allowed to go to any team outside the top 7...
Might as well have said top 6 since we finished 7th I can see him signing for Newcastle for some funny reason, I hope he doesn't, I can't see Pardew getting anything out of him.
he is what both us and newcastle need but i think due to the loan he had with us a few seasons ago we might pip them
Wages will probably decide wherever he goes no doubt, he seems that sort of player, just thank your lucky stars that QPR aren't in the hunt after they signed that other fella.
