Id rather he'd hit the ground running with us from the off - let him prove the 'doubters' wrong

I really believed people would learn from Wickham that sometimes patience is a virtue ....... it appears not.

I would love Altidore to score a hatful and watch people squirm.

Think of what the Weds loan did for Connor.

Month at a good footballing side winning games will be ideal, means he's fit after his knock and good to go.

I think he'll be like a new signing when fresh.

We would all be cheering from the rooftops if this happens, but surely a fresh face to increase competition upfront, and Jozy out on loan for a few weeks would be a safer bet.

We're too thin on the ground mate.

Wickham wants a move and Fletcher can barely move ......... I'd be gutted if Altidore was sent out on loan.

I agree, not that I don't think he would benefit from a loan, but we need him here.

i would much rather keep him then letting him go out on loan especially with us being so thin on numbers. i would rather send fletch out as at least jozy seems interested. he has said himself he had personal issues last season and he's raring to go this term. hopefully we keep him and he gets a goal early doors and turns out to be the beast we all hoped for when he signed

Altidore said he wants to wipe the slate clean start afresh, Gus has said he looks happy and confident - so get him fired up let him prove it, I have a feeling he's going to come good he had a **** world cup due to injury he must be itching to play and put the bad **** behind him - sticking him in the championship is risky it could also backfire with a loss of confidence

there must be a decent player in there somewhere. he scored a hatfull in the dutch league and klinsman thinks he's the bollocks so there must be something there. he such a big unit he should be using his physicality to steamroll defences. hopefully last year showed him what the league is all about and now his personal issues are over with he's ready to take it to the next level and prove himself in the big league

I think the comments about him on social media, where he often goes, will have really stung him.

Once he's let loose I think he'll look like an enraged pig escaping from an abattoir <laugh>

he shouldnt really take some idiot on twitters reamrks to heart. if he had lost the fans he would know about it and were a supportive bunch really. he only has to listern to the chants about getting pissed when jozy scores and he would know that we are behind him. 1 goal early in the season will be all it takes for the flood gates to open. if he uses he strenth and keeps getting into good positions he will get goals

If Liverpool sign Balotelli and this unlocks us to sign Borini, and we don't offload Wickham or Fletcher, then why can't we allow Jozy a short-term loan to get minutes, and hopefully goals? My fear is that he won't score at that level either and then we will be really pushed to offload him.

Poyet has stated his case regarding Altidore, this season, so talk of loans etc are irrelevant ....... he'll be here all season.

If he makes no impact he'll be sold next summer.

It strikes me that Altidore has played 71 times for the USA on the left side of a two-man strike partnership. First, with Donovan and later with Dempsey. And in that position, he scored more than either of them! But last season, Poyet played him as a lone striker, and, with his size and power, he never had less than two defenders on him. So he had a difficult time - who wouldn't.

The first time Poyet plays two up front, he drops Altidore and plays Wickham out of position with Fletcher in the middle. It strikes me that Poyet has played Altidore in all the ways that prove difficult for him, and drops him as soon as we employ the system Altidore excels at for Klinsmann!

We play a front three with one main striker, west brom was no different, Wickham is just not an inside forward. I see your point though about jozy maybe preferring a strike partner. He was an inherited player, I don't think Poyet would have signed him in a million years. I don't believe in changing a whole system to suit individual players, especially when the system is being deployed on every level throughout the club. Poyet will have his own group of strikers in time. Until then he's got to utilise what he's got. I'd replace the lot asap myself. Not that all three wouldn't excel under the right system, just not ours it seems.

Welcome to the board marra. :)

Thanks for the welcome, Funk. But aren't we playing with words between us? Whether we call it one up front or three up front with one main striker, the bottom line is he played Wickham where he was uncomfortable instead of Altidore who excels in that position for the USA.

I don't want to be too hard on Poyet here - it could be that Altidore isn't ready for 90 mins. after a hamstring injury. And last season, Fletch was injured and Wickham wasn't here most of the time. So there may be reasons for all this. I just hope we play Wickham/Fletch up front with Altidore in his favoured position at some point. God knows, he does well at it for Klinsmann.

Not sure of the relevance of the stats though. If a player makes 100 passes in a game and none are over 3 yards in the defensive third and they're all sideways or backwards and he has a 99% success rate then that doesn;t make him Messi.

If Wickham puts the ball in the right area and it goes to the oppo 49 times but once (i.e. Man Utd) of them get to where they're meant to and we score, surely that's a better return than 100 3 yard sideways passes?

Personally I'd be looking to play Mavrias or Buckley inside left on sunday.
