With Remy looking like his staying (fingers crossed) and Vargas now onboard where does this leave Austin? I haven't seen enough of Vargas to comment either way but from what I'm reading his the dogs, so do we drop Austin or play either as impact sub? Finally a nice striking dilemma !
First off its great to have competition for once as you say but don't be surprised if we actually go 3-4-3 with all 3 playing?!? Have to say its the best transfer window i think any of us have seen for many a year!! Harry can have whoever he wants on deadline day out the window now as far as im concerned!! Great work!!
A very good 'problem' to have. Three strikers fighting it out for one or two spots, knowing they will need to prove themselves in each game or risk being on the bench.
Exactly, and it's a long season ahead, so with knocks and rested players, Charlie will get plenty of opportunities to prove himself at this level
It's a great to have good options, good work from the board. I have been very impressed with how we have gone about our business so far.
Charlie & Loic should be our first two choices. Vargas will be an impact sub and will be a great back up if Loic goes in Jan or we suffer any injuries. Alternatively, we play 3-4-3 and utilise Zamora as the impact sub
Playing 2 up front as seems to be plan, I think we need 4 strikers so Arry can rotate them a bit in line with their form, fitness and the opposition. So with Vargas, Remy, Austin and OBZ we got only about 3.5 as OBZ is unlikely to play many 90 minute games. If Remy goes we definitely need another striker I think. Also expect Austin to get a lot of playing time.
Not this season in this league he hasnt. Still unproven at this level. I'll agree though, he definately earned the right to have a decent chance at it. Just hope he can raise it as he looked a bit slow against Hull & his first touch wasnt great. Big step up but he could do it with he crowd on his side. Come on Chazza, show us what you can do....
Reading up on Vargas he can play behind a front 2 adding numbers to the midfield. Possible he could be utilised in that role and push on creating a 3 pronged attack when we have the ball?
I see your point, but Vargas is unproven in the PL too. And his previous goal record isn't as good as Charlie's The thought of giving our talisman the cold shoulder for a midget on a season-long loan is silly imo!
My lad almost wet himself with excitement when he heard we were getting Vargas!! He reckons he's lightening quick and **** hot (his words). Can't wait to see him and it's great to have competition for places up front.
As I mentioned in another thread - he can play as the number 10 behind 2 strikers - so allowing us to play all three.
Yeh to be fair hoopster 'best' was a bit of an understatement!!! Even the most negative posters surely can't find fault this year?!?!
Charlie's scored goals in every other division of English football though- which probably better prepares him for the PL than Vargas. He almost single headedly got us into the playoffs too. None of us really know much about Vargas- other than he's very highly rated (like Granero/Mbia), and scored a goal against an atrocious Spain side. If I'm honest I can't remember much else about him from the tournament other than his fancy haircut. He's a fantastic acquisition, and I'm thrilled with it. But Charlie is our Asset- and I can't see his position being superseded by a season-long loan who's averaged less than 1 in 4 over his (club) career.
With the signing of Vargas we have more options in attack and should take some of the burden off Austin's shoulders. Less pressure will hopefully help Austin perform better. I was afraid his missed penalty could be season defining, same as scoring it would. But to me Charlie seem like a strong character and I'm sure he'll get used to this level. Good question Radek, I'm sure Austin will play his part this season. Competition in the striking department can only be a good thing.
