not at training this morning and gone to Portugal for talks by all accounts, seems we have missed the boat on this lad sadly
Aboubakar to FC Porto (£8M) probably paves way for Jackson Martinez to replace Balotelli at AC Milan
Robin Bairner ‏@RBairner · 2m Vincent #Aboubakar will sign a four-year deal with #Porto and will move for €10m from #Lorient, report L'Equipe
Why have I got a horrible feeling that we're going to deeply regret selling Long. If we have to 'settle' for someone who isn't going to do the business then that 12m is useless off the pitch. Either that nor we'll spunk it all on someone in desperation.
This. We've a week or so to see what happens, but it looks like we just accepted it for the cash without thought for who we may get in as a replacement. If so, awful decision.
Bruce said he didn't have anyone lined up but he did have players in mind. We've got irons in the fire if you believe Bruce. I don't think we bid for Aboubakar but there was interest
To defend patty here, oddly, that isn't the point he's making. He was responding to Hat saying that Bruce will have players lined up and he's bid for 3 which he admitted to. As for replacing Long there are probably strikers out there who we could get for cheaper just everyone only thinks English based forwards
Fair enough, it's just the names cropping up at the moment don't exactly excite me. And I agree that it's the fact that they are english-based.
I wasn't too bothered about him coming either, nor too bothered that he's gone. He missed too many straightforward chances and seemed to be caught offside very easily. As a business decision I don't think any club would have turned down such a large, quick profit. Whether it was the right decision remains to be seen, but as SB seems to know what he's doing we can only trust his judgement.
