Distant, I don't think I made myself clear on what I meant by this statement. I've never been one to advocate spending money we don't have - isn't this what has got us into this mess!? What I meant was: I'm not so much worried that we are only going to spend on our income but that I can't see much income going into the club (therefore we will have little to spend on players, wages etc.) because as a L2 side and with recent history of the club being in decline, the money isn't exactly going to be rolling in from gates, merchandise, tv revenue etc etc. That'll teach me not to try saying a lot with few words in future
Well i doubt we will survive on gate receipts and shop sales fr very long, most of the people of this town will not come unless we are winning
Are you thinking we won't be winning then joe? Can't say we have been in a worse pickle than this before but we have been in this league and down to 4000 stalwarts. It may take a bit of time but I'm confident we will come through this. **** happens in this life as you and I well know this year but laws of averages says something good has got to happen eventually. The stickability side of the Plymouth people is something that has always been worrying it's true but I think we will be pleasantly surprised this time. I predict (and I'm not one for doing that normally) that our gates will be better than we think. I'll even buy another shirt. The green and black stripped one is looking a bit tatty these days. Can't afford a coffee and pasty inside the ground though.
I'm here but I keep timing out as I go about doing other things. BTW sensible, do you have a policy of not replying to you pm's??
Well sensible, i'm not saying we won't be winning. I wish and hope we win a lot of the games, depending on what players we have available. We know the people of Plymouth only come out for the good times, but hope fully they will come and get behind the team. I will not be buying a season ticket, not because of the cost but because of the situation with the little one, bt i will go as many times as i can and hopefully once he is a bit better he will come along as well. I did not have a season ticket last season and that was the first time in the last 8 seasons and you all know why, as i was not happy with the current situation on the board and the bid, that,s the past and we are all moving on and forward.
I think season tickets will have to be paid in full up front unless you fancy giving a finance company interest on it! I don't buy season tickets either as I rarely go midweek and sometimes my son's footy has lunchtime kick offs on Saturdays making things difficult. We go when we can though.
I think they may as well Mrs Reid, that could have a little bit of an effect on buyers as some fans like to spread the cost with no Finance. Its going to be tough all round i think. But hope fully they will have a way of buying them. As i said i would but it may be a bit difficult at the current time.
I have only been a season ticket holder for a short time. I never missed a match and my mate called me stupid for not getting one so I did. I will be buying 3 again this season. My own, my son's and grandaughter. I don't think my son has ever paid for a ticket of his own but that's typical kids for you. Just a hint of what you have to look forward to in years to come joe. I always pay up front anyway so it will make little difference to me. Never liked HP (or the sauce) and never bought anything on tick in my life except my first house. You would think by now that the local football for kids would have gotten their act together regarding kick off times wouldn't you. My son used to play as a lad (now 35) and it was the same then. He was torn between playing and coming to Argyle with me and I was also torn between watching him or them. Given the situation Argyle find themselves in you would think they would help out in that respect and ensure kick off was enough before the professional match to allow kids to do both. No wonder we dip out with that sort of woolley thinking locally.
I was buying three season tickets for the last 8 years as have to other sons who always went when they had early kick off, But it was only a child's ticket so not to bad when they missed a few matches, they love it. Yep the club and Local DJM should get the kick off times sorted and it will benefit everyone as its not just the kids who miss out, the parents have to get them to their matches and watch them. They all need to talk and sort it as the club would surely benefit in the long term. I don't do tick either, can't be paying on the never never. If the club do a 3 payment plan as they did a few years ago, or some thing similar it would help in the current economic climate.
When the family grow up and the grandkids arrive you will be paying for multiple multiple tickets joe. I wouldn't mind betting that no other City with a professional club does football for kids on a Saturday afternoon. When I were a lad it used to be school football on a Saturday morning but it was never in the afternoon. It is only since schools stopped being competitive with kids and the "private sector" took over that it has been this way. Another reason why kids walk about with premiership club shirts on in this City. That is the only football they watch on Sky rather than get involved in the real thing at Home Park. Once ensnared into the Argyle way they would become us in years to come. Poor sods.
True sensible, i think most prem clubs and some championship clubs ahve football on Sat mornings or Sundays. But the way the games in the prem are now played at all times and days they must still miss a few. Why can't all games kick off on Saturdays at 3 pm like it use to be
Very simple answer joe although I do get the sentiment. Sky first second third and last. Money money money as ABBA used to sing. It is the ruler and ruination of all things in the end. Football is a Saturday afternoon game fullstop. It's what Saturday afternoons were invented for. The Mrs could get the shopping in whilst the Mr entertained the kids at Argyle. Mind you plenty of Mrs types seem to frequent the games now. Bloody equality gone mad if you ask me.
Sensible you will be in trouble with the women on here now lol, Yep its a man,s Saturday entertainment! I have no sky tv so can,t watch see Chelsea and arsenhole, not that i want to see them. There is to much of it on TV now and its all money as you said. Pity Argyle don,t get some more from Sky! The big clubs get it and get more in debt. Sooner or later one of them has to go into admin!
I think Ridsdale has got to offer season tickets at a price we can't afford to miss. Season ticket holders have had a pretty raw deal over the last few years because of some of the offers available to others. The only offer we seem to get is 'mate for a tenner' and when that mate is a family member you just end up paying more! Added to the fact that mid-week work commitments abroad mean I have to miss several mid-week games I probably save nothing on the ST. Another advantage of a rock bottom price is that it may encourage a few more fans into the ground. I've a feeling there may be a few spaces available this coming season!
Well greens are good, i understand, but can you see them cutting the cost of the season ticket? no chance, they need as much revenue as possible. I get what you say as if it were a cheaper affordable price more would come along (maybe) but this is Plymouth
I agree with you there Joe, many a time after a game we've rushed to HP with my son still in his footy kit covered in mud lol
