Spot on. The team looked very cohesive against Bolton but, by the sounds of it, was all over the place last night at times. With all due respect to Rotherham, we'll play better teams and they will take advantage. The phrase "the sign of a good team is that when they play badly they still win" is over rated in my opinion. Once in a while it's fine but if it happens too regularly then it's just glossing over underlying problems. Still, everyone said we needed to start winning on the road and we did that so well done guys.
"If" Dyer was abusing Sannino after scoring I am immensely unhappy about it. He is a new signing three games into a season and is no position to be demanding anything. If it was Deeney or Abdi I would be concerned, we have a large squad and it may take a little time to find a settled team. Sannino replaced Abdi and Toszer who had spent 88 mins just 3 days ago getting the run around, he may have felt there was not enough recovery time and a more 'gritty' midfield could get the job done. The fact is we don't know, it may turn out that BS is not up to it but jumping up and down on a manager at this stage of the season I find pretty distasteful and definitely not productive.
I don't really mind the rotation, seeming a lot of the players had a tough 87 minutes on Saturday. What worries me are the changes of formations. Ideally we would have one set formation, the players to fit this formation, then a 'back-up' we can change to during the game if need be. Otherwise players can get confused in their roles. If we are changing formations to suit players rather than the other way round, then I think we will find ourselves have a number of games where we aren't as fluid and seem disjointed. I know we tried 4-3-3 in the summer. That didn't work. Unfortunately I don't think the 3-5-2 suits a number of players, players like Fabbrini and Murray particularly, and possibly Dyer. At the beginning of the season, with the signings we made, I was starting to favour a 4-4-2, where we could have Dyer, Anya, Fabbrini and Murray as our wingers. Centrally we have plenty, so can play a Tozser/Andrews alongside Abdi/McGugan. Just means we have Battochio and Munari spare, along with O'Nien. With Deeney and Vydra, we need ot play 2 up top - and still have Ighalo, FF and Ranegie in reserve - although can see Ranegie going. We have Pudil and Parades as full backs, with Doyley as cover, and seemingly Hoban who can play there too, with plenty at CB - Angella, Tamas, Ekstrand, Tamas, Hoban (and Doyley as cover) I'm not sure what is disrupting the squad - Beppe's training methods, changing tactics etc... but it does seem some of the squad aren't happy.
Once the players got booed off at half time. 2nd half Dyer equalised and cupped his ears to the fans Apart from that not much.
TBH your fans admitted he'd never be a wing back in the 3-5-2 formation we play so unless its 433 Dyer might not get the game time he might have expected. As hockdude suggests not sure doing that in public is the way to go about things...what if a younger player thinks such a reaction is ok?
Yes a fair report and: " Main men Deeney and Matej Vydra were kept quiet all evening. Yet the points headed south." I think though he may feel that his policy was successful.... and in terms of outcome it was.... the substitutions were telling and we changed gear and cam forward with gusto. One thing.... we clearly have a lot of talent this season....
Strikes me that not only did BS have a Plan B last night but that the said Plan B worked. Plan A was getting us the draw, however unsatisfactory that may be, and Plan B got the win. What was the old cliche about this being a results business?
It certainly looked like that last night..... When we proved we could hold them.... change formation and tactics ;;;and go for it..... a bit like DRS in F1
I can't understand that, in the first half especially he was our only outlet. Maybe his reputation from last season preceded him in this game.
Well they say the best teams can win ugly, but that was hideous!! Why on earth did BS think it would be a good idea to play 3 centre backs in a 4-4-2 formation and drop both Abdi and Tozser, and play Munari and Andrews?? The team was perfectly balanced in 3-5-2 and it was clear we needed the midfield general who would organise the centre of the park and win the ball back. Andrews and Munari seemed to be lost somewhere on the M1 until Dyer and Ighalo came on. My love for Tommie Hoban and wish to see him start every game have been well justified, even though he was massivly out of position, he performed admirably and his mazy run into the box to set up Munari was Forestieri like.
Highlights - that start in the second half!!
Dyer will always put a shift in be he's too lightweight as a full back. Aerially one of the worst footballers in the world so he would just be targeted In a 352 you would need one of your midfielders to cover him Lloyd has never been one to rock the boat so I find it strange. Maybe part of the reason is Nigel Pearson commands respect from the players and he helped bring Dyer through at West Brom and then gave him his chance here.
