Cohen who was dressed in a Grimsby shirt was also spotted talking with Town fans in a nearby pub after the game.[7] This was later confirmed that he was scouting towns for an up-and-coming film and had also checked out Scunthorpe, Hull and Newcastle in order to find inspiration for his new role.[8][9] On December 3, 2013, Louis Leterrier was set to direct spy comedy film Grimsby written by Sacha Baron Cohen, which Cohen will also lead the cast.[10] On February 13, 2014, the film moved from Paramount Pictures to Columbia Pictures and announced that the film would be released on July 31, 2015.[11] On April 24, 2014 Mark Strong joined the comedy film to play a British black-ops spy and brother of Cohen's character.[1] On April 25, Annabelle Wallis joined the cast of the film.[4] On June 11, Ian McShane, Gabourey Sidibe, David Harewood and Johnny Vegas joined the cast of the film.[5] On June 12, Baron Cohen's wife Isla Fisher joined him in the film to play a female supporting role.[2] On June 12, Rebel Wilson joined the cast of the film.[3] On July 9, Penélope Cruz joined the cast of the film.[6] Filming[edit] On June 3, 2014 Sacha was spotted during the practice to film some football scenes in the film.[12] The principal photography of the film commenced on June 4, at North Weald railway station and around the Epping Forest area in Essex, England.[13][14] The shooting will last for six weeks in UK and then move to South Africa.[15] On July 3, comedian Eric Idle tweeted a photo from the set with Baron Cohen.[16] On July 10-11, Cohen was filming Grimsby in a small town Tilbury, which was turned into 1980s Grimsby.[17] On July 14, Cohen and Strong were spotted filming some scenes for the film in the streets.[18] A number of residents of Grimsby were angry with Cohen after portraying their town as a rubbish-strewn, violent ghetto in which drunks urinate from windows and mothers hand children cans of beer in the street.[19]
