Would capping wages not be able to got round in some way by it is breaching human rights? Everything seems to be. In sense that they could go to MLS for example and earn more if wage cap was in place in Europe?
I certainly didn't mean anything derogatory and I think I've been posting on here long enough for you to know that! Apologies if any offense was caused old chap.
No rumours lingering about then, apart from Townsend really? All seems to have gone a bit quiet (which is fine, I'm confident that things won't be quiet behind the scenes), unless I've missed something.
A notable example would be Gazza and his friend Jimmy 5 Bellies. I went to an evening with Paul Merson as part of a corporate/charity work thing a few years ago and he told a few tales about when he and Gazza were at Middlesborough and shared a big house with 5 bellies and Mersons brother which was given to them by the club. Because there two house mates didn't work they just lounged around all day, played golf, gambled but mostly got drunk and Merse & Gazza would end up joining them because training was done by mid-day. Mersons brother never had any motivation to go and get work because he was happy to be looked after by his wealthy brother
I've met Merson at a similar type of function a couple of times. The club actually put his brother on the payroll just to come and keep him company as that was the only way Merson would leave his family and move up there. Not bad work if you can get it. Until that time he was commuting everyday and was playing terribly. End up at a lot of these type of functions through my work and you hear some crazy stories.
So based on current rumors we've launched another bid for townsend and are tapping up Gonzalez? Who does everyone here prefer? Rumors: Gonzalez - http://www.caughtoffside.com/2014/08/20/southampton-launch-8m-bid-for-serie-a-midfielder/ Townsend - http://www.caughtoffside.com/2014/0...ved-bid-for-tottenham-winger-andros-townsend/ Player stats: Gonzalez - http://www.transfermarkt.com/alvaro-gonzalez/profil/spieler/55957 Townsend - http://www.transfermarkt.com/andros-townsend/profil/spieler/61842#subnavi
I wonder when we're linked with players perceived as fairly one-dimensional, like Townsend, whether the club recognises this but actually sees an opportunity to develop that player's game and broaden his capabilities. I reckon if we succeed then any of these players could be great additions for us. Same goes for Shane Long in my opinion.
What are the odds that we get neither? it's funny to think of the correspondence between Southampton and Spurs. "No you can't sign Morgan for any price, I'm sorry, but we are interested in signing Townsend. We cool?"
I still think the Andros offer is a smokescreen to keep sky occupied and will end up signing someone yet un mentioned.
I wouldn't be too unhappy with Townsend, before injury curtailed his season last year, I thought he looked pretty good for both club and country. However, I've seen one report suggesting he will be pushed further down the pecking order at spurs if they make a move for Memphis Depay from PSV and I think we would be better off hijjacking that move...
I've only ever seen Townsend play well for England, the few times I've seen him in a Spurs shirt he's been brutal and hasn't got into the game. Come to think of it, he only had two good games for England that I can think of too. Nah, ****e. Don't want him. Although he probably is a realistic target for us.
in a way we don't need by the looks of it. as much as I don't rate townsend, he's young and has more potential int he areas we need. his shooting technique is good. maybe some work on his brain will improve him.
Which was the Uruguay winger who player against us? I seem to remember one of them giving us a hard time? I watched all of Uruguay's WC games and now remember nothing!
I'll go for townsend as well. Young enough to mold, can shoot and some decent experience under his belt. I still think its madness however that we didnt go for Aaron Hunt, perfect solution and ended up going to Wolfsburg on a free transfer.
