He didn't say "pocket the cash" he said "pocket cash". It's perfectly possible to spend some money and pocket some money. We've spent about half of the money brought in so it's possible that's happened.
Plus all the ridiculous TV money. They've made a huge profit this year. Of course it could well be invested in future windows, but there's still the chance they've spent just enough to not relegate the team.
Anyone notice the Blue "Phew" have splashed out for a new GK? Out of work Peter Brezovan has been signed on a non-contract short term deal.
If you read the context of that sentence, which follows with "and finish 14th", then would you not agree that the focus of his meaning was on the "lack of ambition" originally taken from Rickie's statement. Remember this is about Rickie saying they took MP leaving as a sign of the boards ambitions... This is the part I am questioning.
Presumably they've also paid for the training ground? I guess we'll find out when the accounts are published but that'll be a while away yet. Either way, if we get another one or two in then I don't think too much criticism can be levelled at the board.
It is a business...not all money has to be ploughed back in...it's not unusual to try and recoup something from a large investment.
People aren't used to footy being treated like a business. They want it run for love or a rich man's whim. It would be great to see Saints successful on the pitch, debt-free and profitable for the owner. How many clubs can boast that? Any in the UK?
Well, I don't give a toss if Katharina and her buddies have boosted bank accounts, but I do care if the team regresses. Obviously I want us to be sustainable but a net gain of about 80m in one window (including TV money) is more than just sensible and sustainable.
Sorry for the late reply. Yes, exactly, the players were all going before Pochettino left. However, they were not going before Cortese left. Hence, Lambert's story is consistent; the players wanted to leave when the new board, with lesser ambitions, took control, following Cortese's departure. As far as I'm aware, the deals for Shaw, Chambers, and Lallana, had not been completed when Cortese left, in mid-January. I thought Shaw told the club he wanted to leave after the Man Utd home game last season, 4 months after Cortese left.
It is in football, particularly in English football. If you want to recoup something, you do so by selling, which would gain back every cent invested plus some. Unless you're Man U and have Official Corporate Partner For Toenail Care On Tuesdays In Spring the revenue streams simply don't support taking money out on a regular basis while remaining terribly healthy on the pitch.
The saddest thing is, and I posted this in more detail earlier, that players see ambition as something paid for and not something worked toward. We had a good squad. All ambition needed was for them to stay and integrate more youth talent. I don't want Chelsea of City success. I want hard-earned, genuine success. Players want too many short cuts. .
kids coming through the ranks won't give them opportunity boost their pay packets as quickly by demanding parity.
Would make sense. Plus would probably give a greater indication as to whether he really has any hope of making it.
I presume the Tom Leggett and Isaac Nehemie transferred from Southampton to Aston Villa are u21 players as I haven't heard of them. I know it's old news, but kept forgetting to ask.
