I don't get it, though - was there a situation where an inexperienced manager would have been sought?

Absolutely. I'll never forget Rooney practically shat himself just before Boruc took the ball and then him as well, in that great moment that cemented Artur as a bit of a lege. To be fair, Rooney got up and acknowledged he'd been well and truly tackled.

Forster has to be right at the top of his game if he's going to keep Artur out, imo.

You can pretty well determine Boruc's ability to perform a task based on the amount of insanity it involves. To wit:

    - Closing down one-on-ones. Requires the keeper to sprint out and fling himself in front of an on-rushing player, while pretending to be a starfish. Degree of inherent insanity: VERY HIGH. Boruc's skill at such: VERY HIGH.

    - Attacking crosses. Requires the keeper to rush into heavy traffic and fling themselves at the ball to get a punch or catch. High likelihood of injury. Degree of inherent insanity: VERY HIGH. Boruc's skill at such: VERY HIGH (except when he misses them, but again, insanity).

    - Distribution. Boooooooring. It's just kicking or rolling the ball. Degree of inherent insanity: VERY LOW. Boruc's skill at such: VERY LOW.

    - Composure. Is pretty much the polar opposite of insanity. Boruc's skill at such: VERY LOW.

I think Forster would be disappointed in the first goal. From watching some of his youtube highlights and a little yesterday he does tend to stick to his line a little more than the sweeper keeper style of Boruc.
The different styles are probably dictated by the different sizes of the goalkeepers. Forster is such a presence that he doesn't need to close the angles as quickly as a smaller keeper like Boruc who has to rely more on agility.

It was a difficult decision for Forster as Sterling was still quite far out when he first received the ball and had time to look up and gain control. If you charge out it's usually best if it's more of a 50/50 challenge or you can find yourself giving away a penalty and potentially getting sent off.

If he had charged out we would be saying he should have stayed back. Keepers can't win.

Forster struggles to get down for low shots. A lot of Celtic goals he conceded were where he just couldn't get down.

Wither Watson can work on that or it's his sheer size time will tell.

Before you all start getting at me. I've seen fair amount of Celtic games along with fiorentina, southampton and rangers matches

Just for the record - here are José Mourinho's comments on the GK situation at Chelsea:

'We have to think about the future of the club and I made a decision to give the goal to Courtois.'

But Petr is on the bench and acting professionally...

I am not a great fan or Forster from the limited appearances I have watched him in. He looked pretty static for the first goal, as has previously been said, and he is certainly not a keeper who is going to pass it around on the deck so I do wonder if we have overpaid for him, however when Boruc started for us he was rusty too.

It is interesting that a few people said Jose hadn't made that public decision. Seems he has and I believe with the keeper it is the right thing to do. I wonder if Petr does look for more game time elsewhere. Do they still have Schwarzer?

Well unfortunately those that claim to be in the know don't tend to share, merely to judge, so imagination, presumption, educated guessing - call it what you like. It needs to be used.
