    Sad news,

James Alexander Gordon: Voice of football results dies, aged 78

James Alexander Gordon, one of the most recognisable voices in British broadcasting, has died aged 78.
Gordon read the classified football results on BBC radio for 40 years before stepping down in 2013.
He retired following throat surgery after he was diagnosed with cancer.

Remember sitting with my father on Saturday afternoons listening to the results.
One of the voices I most associate with my childhood.

Listening and trying to guess the away team score, did everyone do that?

RIP - I used to listen faithfully with my Dad to the BBC Saturday football full time results - you could almost detect from his tone after the first team's score was read whether it was going to be a home win, a draw or an away win.

    Yes.

I don't usually post on the RIP threads but I'll make an exception for James Alexander Gordon. I remember as a kid trying to imitate him and changing the result to an unexpected one using the same intonation in his voice. RIP James.
