Siouxsie and the Banshees also did a version of The Lords Prayer Thurnby - it was better than Cliff's.

Tarnishing someone's reputation by raiding their home in the full glare of a conniving media outlet on an unfounded accusation is nothing short of disgraceful. The Police and BBC should be severely punished for this grotesque abuse of civil liberties! The Police have not approached Cliff Richard regarding the accusation and tipped off the BBC as to what they were going to do! Hardly a laughing matter in my opinion. <ok>

Let's wait and see the outcome of the investigation shall we? I'm sure you would probably have said the same thing a year ago had they done this to Rolf Harris

He has already been judged and condemned on social media before charges have even been brought. So much for natural justice! Everyone in this country is supposed to be innocent before proven guilty and entitled to a fair hearing but there is little chance of that now is there?

That is exactly why I said that "I shouldn't find it funny" in my opening gambit Warky.

    Unfortunately I did :emoticon-0101-sadsm

Cliff lives in Barbados and has full citizenship there so even if he is guilty he won`t get extradited, child sex offenders are not funny but there was something very sinister going on in the entertainment industry in the 80`s.
There are rumors that Cliff Richard was a rent boy and had links to Sir Jimmy the Krays and high up politicians.

Or as I think is more likely, is that the media glare was carefully planned, in the hope that generating publicity would lead to more people coming forward. They and other orgs are fairly convinced it's true, just that they don't have enough evidence currently.

Doesn't anyone feel a little bit concerned at the way the Police are going about all these high profile cases? At the moment all we have is a high profile fishing expedition on the word of an accusation made by one person. How would anyone on here feel if this was happening to them?

I would jet off to the Bahamas and not read newspapers or watch tv knowing full well there was nothing the police could do either way whilst not paying tax either.

What does that mean? More than one person needs to make an allegation of rape against someone before the police investigate? As usual you are talking rubbish.

And it's ok for you to tarnish "the police" as a whole because of this incident that you don't agree with? Any excuse eh Tory boy? I'm personally sick of the way our media and this government try to put down our on the whole absolutely brilliant police forces (particularly the Met) at any available opportunity, in fact it disgusts me.

A friend's brother used to run a cruiser hire business on The Broads.CR hired one back in the late 60's and there were many tales of derring do.Apparently he took a load of young lads up the muddy creeks,so to speak.

This is a very valid point <ok> All those hundreds of Savile victims lived with what that **** had done to them for years in private silence until that ITV documentary and then the floodgates opened as soon as those people realised that they might be taken seriously after all.

This is why anonymity until trial should extend TO BOTH parties.
If you actually looked at the evidence behind the Rolf Harris verdict I'm not convinced of his guilt and I don't think it was possible to get a fair trial and I don't think Cliff would get one either.

If you have a situation where it's you did this and no I didn't the only way one argument has more clout is if more people come forward. In the Harris case one of them sold their story for cash, couldn't remember her age at the time, the actual year it happened.

Sorry for me to find someone guilty I'd want evidence not a number of people with allegations.

It's hard because of Saville but there's got to be a better way than this

I wish I had your faith in the Police Munky. Hillsborough, Lawrence, Miners strike and what is Coulson being charged with? Paying money to a Public Official. And who is that Public Official? Due to a stitch up between Cameron and Miliband these people will now have unfettered access to everybodys phone and email records. If, in his snooping, PC Plod discovers an affair between 2 high profile people we can trust him not to make a fortune by tipping off the press - can't we? Prevent terrorism and crime my arse. Do you seriously believe that Bin Laden sent an email and attachments setting out details of 9/11 or a criminal does that with details of a planned robbery? 1984 arrived 30 years late!!!

Agree entirely Rich. Apparently the appeal is based on an allegation that the Judge led the Jury to a guilty verdict by putting too much emphasis on the fact that Harris couldn't remember being in Cambridge for a day 35 years ago. I am sure that there were places I visited 35 years ago but if you asked me now I would say I had never been there.

I used to believe that we had the best Government, best police, the best lawyers, the best judicial system in the world. It's only recently that I've started to believe that the whole system is corrupt from the top down, I now trust no-one in authority and keep myself to myself. It sickens me to think what these people in power really know and really do unbeknownst to us. The corruption in the Met from the sixties and seventies is well documented God only knows what people in privileged positions got away with back then, many have gone to their graves never having been punished for their crimes. If there is a God at least we can rest assured that they are being well and truly punished for their sins now.
