    Mignolet - 7
My God, he made me eat some words today, covered his box, at one point he was even in the D! BEst performance from him since his arrival, still dodgy on his distribution.

    Johnson - 0
Total waste, a potted plant would have given more, at least the Southampton players would have had to run around the potted plant.

    Lovren - 8
Straight in, comfortable and class, passing needs a bit more thought at times

    Škrtel - 9
Man of the match, blameless for the goal, mopped up everything else that came his way.

    Mankiller - 7
solid start, that saw Southampton throw everything his way, coped very well with the **** storm thrown at him.

    Gerrard - 4
Take off the club legend tinted glasses and Stevie is so past it and offers very little, other than his reputation. has totally lost confidence in his own passing range, and everything is either under or over hit.

    Lucas - 4
Very negative game from the Brazilian, maybe would have played better without Gerrard doing the exact same job, didn't get booked , which is a bonus.

    Hederson - 6
A bit lost being the only midfielder on the pitch, kept getting in Mankiller's way, ran about a lot, didn't achieve very much, but that is not really his fault.

    Courtinho - 6
Good point made above about him being a weather vane, he didn't like the big physical players that Southampton had. Has skills, but not at all consistent.

    Sterling - 7
Sky's Man of the match for some reason, oh yes he scored and made a goal, but still needs to develop and learn more. a few times he made totally wrong choices that if he fixes, could make him a very dangerous player.

    Sturridge - 5
Was he even playing? Admittedly with Rodgers forgetting to pick any midfield for this game, he just never had the support he needs, but he doesn't work very hard to make his own chances.

    Allen - 5
Better than Lucas...just. Brought very little to make his selection over Can worthwhile.

    Lambert - 6
Will he ever get a goal? seemed to raise the team to get the goal we needed, he put himself about, but not much else.

    Rodgers - 1
Bad formation, bad team selection, solely to blame for Liverpool struggling today. Did far more for Southampton than he did for Liverpool. His celebration for the second goal was OTT, out of relief, after totally screwing it up today and not getting anything right.

    Fans - 4
Get points for not booing, but did nothing to support the team, heard more noise at a Sunday league game. fairweather support at best.

I think at 60 mins In such games Rodgers should try and sub Gerrard and bring in Can. At times when you were on top he was ball watching as you by passed our midfield. That said he is still very useful with his range of passing.

As I said, I wasn't having a go. I'm just very suspicious of players who 'shine' during the first few games of the season.

You give Rodgers a 1? He made a great sub and changed the system which won the game. Hero stuff.

Johnson 0 is harsh. He at least deserves 1 for making it from the dressing room to the pitch.

I'm think Rodgers may see Can as an alternative to Henderson.

Gerrard's problem was being paired with Lucas. They both stop each other from shining.

Rodgers should have made the first sub after 30 minutes, and used Can instead of Allen, the system change came an hour too late too. He is stubborn and was too negative, he gave Southampton the confidence to bring the game to us. Started far too defensively. Today was all his making.

No that's fair enough. Depends how you spin it - there's a lot of expectation on the lad and he fitted in to the PL straight away. 1 game, 1 assist so far. Let's see how he goes.

They seem to play in the same spaces thus getting in each others way. This was why coutinho seemed to struggle as when Henderson plays in that role he is able to move up and support Coutinho and play quick one twos. Since his injury, Lucas has lost loads of mobility which is sad.

It looks like some of you would rather play well and loose than play badly and win today.

I actually think Rodgers showed why he is a brilliant tactician today by bringing on Lambert and changing the system. He did not have much choice with his team selection, maybe got Lucas wrong but dealt with it and won us the game.

The Lucas experiment worked well in the first half. We were secure through the middle but the price was a loss on legs in the attacking position. However they used the wind very well in the 2nd half to hold the ball up and we dropped deeper rather than pressing higher. Lucas therefore became lost.

Is that sarcasm? lol. Johnson botched it badly and long should be shot for such a criminal miss. It was a free header

I agree, I thought Lucas did well in the first half. I also think Allen did well when he came on.

We need to understand that we are never going to have a world class player in every position plus a bench full of them ready to come on. The likes of Lucas and Allen have a role to play throughout the season and both are good players.

Based on the fact that we have the fewest bookings of every winning team we should be top of the Fair Play table <diva>
