Thinking positively, we don't really know how our new players might perform so we may be pleasantly surprised by some. I'm looking forward to seeing Cabella in action. Aarons if he plays will be interesting, as will Riviere. Colback is probably going to turn out to be better than a lot of people expect - I'm hoping that over the season he'll prove to be a very useful player and help give the midfield some defensive stability with Tiote/Anita/Sissoko alongside, so an attacking line of Riviere/Ferreyra, Siem, Cabella, Aarons/Gouffran/Sissoko can cause some damage.

Back to today... If what I have just read is correct then Pardew's record for us against Man City causes me distress: P8 L8 F3 A23. That's dire even taking into account the difference between the two clubs resources.

Christ I just hope we are capable of creating chances, not expecting any sort of result. I'd start with aarons too, though we will probably see tron.

Tron should not even make our match-day bench - and if he somehow does today, then it proves Pardew has more than one loose screw. Like you, I'd be happy with a promising performance from the lads today. Anything more than that in terms of points would be a bonus.

That's shockingly poor ..They manage 3 goals a game..while we 1/3rd of a goal a game against them. Gonna be another long afternoon.

Makes woeful reading. But it will only get worse. Looking at the BBC 'gossip column' today it's all about the big 5 making multi £million offers for even more top international stars. Like they need more! The game has gone completely crazy due to the money involved.

I think he will make the bench, you have to show that some effort can get you near the team, though we all know how it will turn out and it will be another false dawn. Pardew should buy him a ticket to watch "lucy' about the chick who manages to unlock more than 10% of her brain, and its a frightening thought really

His pre match bulls**t for this one has been particularly repulsive.

“Hopefully bringing back a brand of football to Newcastle that we haven’t perhaps seen for four or five months.”

    Jesus ****in Christ.

how are we all it's been a while yes it has.

anyway how are the people north of Sunderland feeling about the new season and in particular the game against Manchester City? I can see a 2-2 draw if I'm honest. hopefully pardew has got it sorted.

There's no hiding place for him this year.
By his own admittance he's been backed.
Even HBA is unblameable this year.

''I am kind of preparing myself for an even start if I'm honest"

Who ever said this man couldn't inspire the players?

I honestly don't see what he has said wrong. We've brought in a lot of players and common sense tells you that there is an adjustment period when you do that, but that if you have bought and managed well then things improve over time. If you have bought or manage badly they don't. He has no excuses this season because he has a squad that he says he is happy with, though he would like to bring in a goalscorer.

The full quote of that bit (at least as I read it on F365) was:

"I don't think the target from the club will change, but that doesn't represent the target that I want my players to drive for because we want to drive for higher than that. I don't like setting targets myself with the team. What we do also need to understand - and I know people are saying it's desperate, that I need a fast start etc, etc after what happened at the back end of last year. I think that's going to be difficult because we have got a lot of new players, so I am kind of preparing myself for an even start, if I am honest, and to get stronger as we go along. If it's any better than that, then that will be a blessing."

Add in that we're starting against the reigning champions and I think that's a fairly realistic outlook. It doesn't mean that what he'll be saying in the dressing room wont be vastly different, or that he isn't setting the team up to try and win today. If he'd come out and said we were gonna wipe the floor with Man City then I think we'd have all had something to say about that.
