QPR set to reward bad boy Joey Barton with lucrative new £75,000 per week contract Aug 16, 2014 22:30 By Alan Nixon With only a year remaining on his current contract Rs owner Tony Fernandes has opened talks with the midfield firebrand over a new one QPR are ready to hand Joey Barton a lucrative new deal â after he turned around his career with the Hoops, writes Alan Nixon in the Sunday People. The midfield firebrand, 31, is in the final year of his contract, but Rangers owner Tony Fernandes has opened talks to make him stay. And Barton could sign soon for an extra season or two â with his wages going up to £75,000 a week. It is a remarkable turnaround for Barton who seemed to have played his last game for QPR when they nearly went down and he was sent off in disgrace at Manchester City two years ago. But he served a one-year âsentenceâ in exile with Marseille on loan and, surprisingly, returned to be a key part of their promotion success last term. Barton has matured, but still has the competitive edge that Rangers boss Harry Redknapp needs to beat the drop this season. http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/qpr-set-reward-bad-boy-4063152#ixzz3Ab2V0Fyk Follow us: @DailyMirror on Twitter | DailyMirror on Facebook
I wouldn't look at anywhere near 75k, I changed my mind over him after he pulled his head in after his brain fart at City, but 75k is far too much... I'm guessing though its just a figure plucked out of some journalists arse...
Seriously, if we are such a joke, go back to your own board and discuss how amazing you are. What sort of Mod are you with lame arse comments like that, get a grip...
Regardless of the crazy money The club should wait to see how he performs week in week out IMO He certainly can run no doubt about that but delivery and creativity? He is a much better player today again no doubt but IMO from a very average player in the first place
Does he warrant a new contract? It's nice to be loyal but if we can stay up and attract players like Mutch and hopefully Fer or De Guzman would we expect an aging Joey to get that much game time? 1-2 years at most and hopefully not on silly money!
What a joke of a moderator you are. If your a supposedly leader of your forum, your comments say a lot about those under you. You are living proof that the misfits & uneducated are discriminated against.
I thought that he was the best player on the pitch yesterday. Having said that his set piece delivery was poor, so either Hoddle needs to teach him how to dramatically improve or someone else should take the crosses and free kicks. Also, there seemed to be quite a lot of tension between him and Rio. I hope that doesn't poison the dressing room.
What did you observe? I hope Barton give him a right rollicking for his amateurish defending that cost us the game.
It's fortunate that I don't believe a word of this or I'd be rather cross. Let's say we stay up this year, does anyone really think a limited, pace free, disciplinary and public relations risk will be central to our consolidation and progress? And you would pay more to keep the player who disgraced the club, loudly whined about never wanting to come back (and who Marseilles seem to have lost all interest in) and is already rumoured to be disrupting the changing room? What the hell has happened to the standard of Premier League club wumming?
By all means offer Joey a new contract but no wage rise and no guarantee of first team football , he's part of the squad and that's it . If he throws his toys out and demands a transfer then so be it . Personally I think he's a championship player at best . If Fer and Diara arrive then I think we will be seeing less of Joey Barton anyway . Also think Hoddle will have some say in the matter as I don't think somehow they will be inviting each other over for a cosy drink or two !
From where I was in the Loft I couldn't hear the exact content mate, but they never seemed to stop yelling at each other. My guess is that is was to do with our positioning and dodgy marking when defending, probably a consequence of us still trying to find our feet with the 352 formation. There didn't seem to be a lot of love lost between them though, both wanting to be the undisputed leader on the pitch. One to watch I think.
