What a result! You just KNOW that this time last year we would have conceded 1 or probably 2 late goals. Onwards and Upwards
As Alan Knight said............ the last few minutes was squeaky bum time. Fans played their part - upped the noise to encourage the team.
Just got back to the I.O.W. Nice win, and three points - well deserved. I reckon if Adam hadn't got sent off (nasty challenge !) then we would have possibly gone on to win 4 or 5 nil. Shame Nigel Atangana had to go off for Joe Devera, after Adam was sent off, as he looks a very good player for us. Very impressed with him and James Dunne. Jack Whatmough a bit shaky to begin with, but much improved in the second half, and Paul Robinson very steady alongside him. Good sized crowd, and brilliant atmosphere
I completely missed the sending off! I saw Webster walking off (couldn't tell who it was from where I was sat) and just presumed he was going to get some water/tactical instructions and Nigel was injured! Bit of a Chris Kamara moment there! But now that I realise we played an entire half with ten minute, then I must say I was impressed with our resolve, and certainly for the first half of the second half, we created chances, and the second goal was definitely coming! Shame Whatmough didn't score, moments before the own goal! Fantastic atmosphere though!
Boys worked really hard for that today.....thought Jones was really solid. Storey worked his socks off and has a great first touch - Taylor really led the line....Webs 2nd challenge was silly with him already on a yellow - as had been said last year we'd not have held out but today grit hard work and a bit of luck here and there saw us over the line. Made the drive home far more pleasant than our first home game last year.
I only realised you don’t live in Eastney after reading that! That would be decadent driving to Eastney from FP.
My first game since Plymouth so early impressions:- Very impressed with Storey. He can play with both feet so, as a winger, it is hard for the full back to defend against him as he go inside or outside and still get the cross in. Also thought Shorey had a solid captain's game - defended and read the game well, got forward quite a bit and classy on the ball. Taylor just gets better and better - a handful on the ground and in the air and wins more headers than he loses. These three combined beautifully for the first goal - Shorey's measured and disguised pass down the wing to Storey, Storey's pasting of the full back and perfect cross and Taylor's run and clever looped header past their keeper. Textbook stuff. Whatmough got found out a bit and struggled against their clever number 10 until Robinson took over that marking job. After that he was more assured. He has a lot to learn still but has a great future. Both Webster's yellow card fouls were very foolish and he can have no complaint. He is not a fullback so should not be put there unless there is an emergency. Devera did a decent enough job but is also shaky at right back at times. It was interesting to note that Holmes was used to bolster the right defensive flank when he came on late in the game. That is our week spot without doubt. I was very impressed with Atangana and he was unlucky to have to make way for Webster's foolishness. Wallace, Hollands and Dunne had decent if unspectacular games. I was surprised that Jones got M of M. He was at fault for the first goal as he should have come for the cross. He stayed rooted to his line and could do nothing to save the header as a result. He was generally solid other than that though. M of M was a toss up between Taylor a and Storey for me. Fans were brilliant - really upped the volume when needed and almost sucked the second goal in. I think we are going to have an exciting season.
Agree Meowth that would make very decadent and very lazy..........I lived in Eastney till I was 21 - hence the "nom de scrire".
