http://www.theguardian.com/football/2014/aug/15/sunderland-gus-poyet-premier-league-fabio-borini Gus Poyetâs pre-season mantra at Sunderland has been: âNo more suffering.â After the teamâs narrow escapes from relegation in the past two campaigns he has pledged to end the pain. Poyet presided over the second âmiracleâ in May and wants no repeats. âNo more miracles and no more suffering,â said Sunderlandâs manager before Saturdayâs trip to West Brom. âI donât want to suffer any more. I have never had a season like last season, not as a player and not as a coach, and I donât want another. I can tell you that for the first two days of my holiday I donât know if I moved at all. It had been very hard; I suffered a lot last year.â For the moment the Uruguayan is enduring a few more agonies while he waits to see whether Fabio Borini, a hit as a loanee on Wearside last season, will go along with the £14m permanent transfer to the Stadium of Light agreed between Sunderland and Liverpool some weeks ago. âItâs not that Borini doesnât want to come,â Poyet said. âI have talked to him and things are clear but I canât tell you everything because itâs not fair on everybody. Please trust me. Itâs impossible to say it will happen tomorrow, Monday or the 31st of the month.â Poyet, who stressed he is hoping to keep his much-admired England Under-21 striker Connor Wickham, is relieved to have at least got this summerâs statement acquisition, Jack Rodwell, settled in following his £10m move from Manchester City âIâm really excited by Jack Rodwell,â he said. âLike any other player that hasnât been playing too much, he maybe needs a bit of time. He is going to get better and better but we have to make sure we look after him. Itâs important to know when he needs a rest and make sure he is the midfielder with the power, the ability to create, the presence, the ability to arrive in the box that we missed a lot last year.â Sunderland also missed Steven Fletcher as their Scotland striker spent most of the last campaign sidelined by assorted injuries but Poyet is optimistic this term will be different. âI hope Fletch will be like a new signing,â he said. âI think itâs probably the best heâs been physically for the past three or four years. The conditions are perfect for him to go and perform.â
Good to hear. Also the bit in bold is interesting... Wonder what the hold up is then? Or is Gus just covering for Fabio in case he does end up here to avoid any ill-feeling with the fans? EDIT: Ahh crap I've turned it into another Borini thread...
Its impossible not to discuss it when every journo is pushing him on it, i think its a combination of, shoulder (let liverpool pay his wages, they took him to boston) loyalty payment (agent) leave liverpool short up front (not our problem)
I think the Borini problem is not that he dosent want to come, its Liverpool need to buy another Striker before his release, they only have Sturridge, Lambert and Borini, if Sturridge or Lambert get injured it would cause them problems, as soon as they get a new Striker I think Borini will join us.
but they accepted our offer in the first place.does that not mean they were happy for him to go then.?????????
Someone mentioned in another thread about how his agent was a nightmare and his transfers were never straightforward. Could be his contract with Liverpool is so convoluted it needs to be carefully unraveled to avoid legal/registration complications. Can`t remember who said it now. Might have been Disco.
Agreeing a fee isn't the same as allowing the player to completing the signing. They can hold off the transfer indefinitely if they need to.
Thought the thing with Borini was L'pool didnt want to let him go to till they had a striker in? Exactly Wrong thread
