BRIGHTON and Hove Albion manager Sami Hyypia has slammed Sunderland new boy Will Buckley after he completed a £2.5m move from the Sussex club. Hyypia â who took over as Brighton manager in the summer â questioned the attitude of the player in training, and said he did not show why âeveryone was ravingâ about him. The former Liverpool defender said: âI have an idea that when somebody doesnât want to play for you or be there for you then itâs better to move on. âBefore I came I heard about players here and Will Buckley was one of the best rated players here. âI donât know what was wrong with him all pre-season but he didnât really show why everybody was raving. âI donât know if he knew that something was going to happen but I donât think Iâm the only one who saw he wasnât the same. âI would have liked to have Will Buckley in top form helping us to get points in the league but that wasnât to be and the decision was made that he goes to Sunderland.â
I totally agree with Hypia, these so-called professionals are like kids, petulant and moody until they get their own way, far too much of it in the game. He must be a half decent player though if his manager is moaning about him going.
The lad wanted to leave and rejoin Gus last January. Brighton priced us out of a move in January instead of letting the lad step up. No club should restrict a player from taking a step up in league. No wonder he lost interest and heart, he clearly needed to force a move to fulfil the final stage of his development at a more competitive level. Maybe if Hyypia had been there 6 month prior he'd have a bit of empathy on the matter instead of going straight to the media to slag him off. If they got the fee they wanted then fair enough, he was their asset and they have the right hold out but to let him go for half the price they wanted 6 months ago tells me they could have just sold us him January. Bad crack, cheep shot that's unneeded.
I saw the interview on the television. Sami had a right bottom lip on, and kept stamping his feet when he was talking to the reporters. I'm not sure what one of them said back to him but he shot off towards his office before shouting "I hate you all & wish you were all dead!" and slammed the door in their faces. You could hear stuff being thrown about in the office then some bloke called Tony Bloom turned up, stormed into the office, shut the door behind him & then a smacking noise could be heard & Sami shouting "no, no, no." Hopefully Buckley is good enough to cause that kind of carry on.
In fact, when players turn to the press to take pot shots at previous clubs and managers, people can't wait to express how petulant and immature they are for behaving that way, so who's actually petulant here? The manager who should be setting an example. Hope Buckley doesn't rise to it.
Exactly. They've all got such short memories, these guys. He must have seen it countless times during his playing career, and either possibly acted in the same way or saw his team mates do the same. Why can't they show a bit of class and keep shtum, instead of offloading to journo's.
