I collected my new replica shirt today so looking forward to wearing it on Saturday for our first league win of the season (ever the optimist) Not sure what PT will do about the squad, he could just play the same team as Tuesday which I doubt, he could bring McGlashan and Keds back to the starting line up, he could start Pritchard and possibly Fish who is back in training. Oh! to have choices.
.........................Morris........................ ........Hause.........Egan..........Legge....... Fish............................................Martin ..........Dickenson......Morris......Loft........ .................Kedwell.......German............
Hamstring apparently. And Dickenson has a shoulder injury http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/28716726
thanks - can't keep up with all this, think i might have to lift my season long programme boycott this season....just so i can remember what players we actually have got available LOL
I thought it was a scrappy game, but i`m pleased we have got our first three points of the season.I think the turning point of the game was when Legge gave away the penalty, and Moore`s weak effort was easily saved by Bywater. From then on we looked better and we were rewarded a free kick outside of the area.Martin stepped up and put it straight in the top corner, not a bad way to celebrate his 150th appearance for the Club! Just before Half-time it could have been 2-0 as Yeovil couldn`t clear the ball away, and Legge`s header had to be tipped over the bar.Ten minutes after half-time we were awarded a penalty after Smith fouled Aaron Morris.Kedwell stepped up and his penalty was saved, but luckily he followed up and scored the rebound. The downside of the game was the two injuries to Josh Hare, and Joe Martin.Hare looked like he got hit in the face with the ball and went off on the stretcher looking dazed, and Martin looked like he hurt his knee and also went off on the stretcher. We seem to be having no luck with injuries at the minute. Two wins in a week against Yeovil, and it is good to have our first three points of the season.
Martin will be a bigger miss as it looks like we will have to move Loft to LB. I was quite close to Hare when it happened and it looked like he made more of it than it actually was. Sure Charlie Lee would have been straight up again.
First half really enjoyed, lots of chances each end, second half not so much but pleased with 3 points in the bag.My main concern is cover for cody.I watched German Tues night and today and i am not sure he is up to the job.He doesn`t win any headers and when he gets the ball hes lost for ideas. In both games he was never going to score a goal in a million years. He also needs a chat with Keds for advice on work rate.Early days for Dickinson ,but not convinced hes in codys league.6 goals in three games good going but feel we might have to rely on goals from midfield.Well done Gills today, hope injuries not bad.
A good win and a very welcome three points but to be honest an uninspiring performance. Playing three central defenders and two defensive midfielders at home and with Cody missing and no Dack meant we would offer very little attacking threat. To be fair PT said in the after match interview that with the wingers injured and thus pace missing he had to play a slightly different formation. The 5-3-2 can work as long as the two wing backs really get forward and put lots of good crosses in. I don`t think that really happened today. Hare got knocked out when the ball hit him in the face hence why he went off but the good news was that Fish looked good when he came on. I thought Loft looked good and Aaron Morris is a very good replacement for Steve Gregory. Kedwell was excellent and German not as bad as some would make out, he is very raw and lacks the confidence and natural instinct to be effective as a striker at this level but he worked hard, ran the channels, had pace (the only one) and held the ball up quite well. Egan looked very good and apart from the penalty Legge played quite well, and Bywater did well in goal. Hause worried me, looked like he was ball watching and was not picking players up and gave the ball away in dangerous areas. hopefully he will improve. Alas not one decent through ball from the midfield to the strikers, which was also a problem last season. Dack playing will address that and offer us creativity. Good win boys and roll on Tuesday when the swine come to town! Cmon u Gills!
Good 3 points from our first home game of the season, everyone worked hard and with a 2 - 0 score line no need to look for scape goats. Just to give my point of view on German, he didn't set the world alight but neither did any of the others and as for winning headers he won more than Kedwell in the first half and no that isn't a dig at Kedwell just a fact.
I think German done okay worked hard, created breathing space and his physical presence was missed when he went off
It seems like a lot of fans have gone off German. What's happened in the space of 2 games? Or is it just the usual need for our lot to pick a scapegoat or someone to butcher after every performance?
SirKeefy - i'm sure everyone will remember on how vocal i was in support of German before yesterday, but i have to put hand on heart and say sorry lad you messed it up in that game..i've been trying to think who he reminded me of...has the ability but looks lost when it comes to thinking quick...maybe Kuffour...just can't remember at the mo for sure. You got the ball feed it or do something with it...don't wait, you should already know where everyone is...
brb, For a lot of the game German was on his own (except for the 2 markers) he was winning headers with no one close enough to get the second ball, he was chasing lost causes because the forward balls were going nowhere near him, he rarely had anyone to pass to. If work rate alone was the sole criteria for being number one then Joe Martin covered twice the ground of any other player yet a lot of people have their favourites and those 3 or 4 favourite players can do no wrong whilst others can do no right.
I'm sorry but German looked completely out of his depth. On 3 occasions if he'd simply have bought the ball under and driven forward then he would have created a chance for himself or another. Keds even laughed on the last occasion, would rather see Norris getting a chance against swindon.
grumpygit...you know me mate, i'd be the first to jump to the defence of any young player, in the first half he was making his presence felt, however, in the second when he was closer to my area of viewing, he had a couple of good opportunities where is required final touch never got applied. It's difficult i know and i certainly would not condemn German on that one display, i'm merely stating what i saw on the day. Hopefully he will get another chance and have more confidence in his own ability. He should have threaded that ball through on at least two occasions imo and why to the life of me he never only he or someone with tactical nonce knows. As for Martin i've no idea why he never caught my observations, hence i've not commented on him, but sadly that also means he receives no praise, due to my own lack of observation towards him. Maybe bias but i wouldn't have thought so on my part unless unconscious bias.
