Mirror reporting Liverpool offering Sterling a staggering 400% pay rise in order to ward off interest from Real! According to the paper that would put him on 120k a week!!!

    http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/liverpool-offer-raheem-sterling-four-4051048

I'm not sure he has justified such a pay rise yet, but I wouldn't want to see him go either. I just hope that this doesn't stop him improving as it has done with many young players thinking they have hit the big time when in reality there's still plenty of room for improvement.

Well seeing last times the rags were utterly convinced we gave him 100k as well... Let's just say exaggeration is all part of their game

Real Madrid? Sterling would be a total fool

Sterling needs at least 2 more years growth before even considering Real/Barca. At that point I'd expect us to have tied him down on a long term deal and we'd command a fee larger than Bale's

nothing to worry about at the moment.

few seasons time we will have to worry about sterling coutinho etc i should imagine, but at the moment don't see a danger of them off, esp real etc lazy journalism really.

Im sure by massive pay rise they mean he is moving up a bracket in the pay structure. As in from 30 to say 50k per week.

Which would make him on par with most Prem footballers who are 6 years older than him. Its well worth it to keep him here. He's England's number one talent and will be crucial to our clubs success.

I was skeptical of his inclusion over Coutinho last season but he really impressed me. Now the spot has opened up for both to play and I can't wait to see the partnerships develop with Sturridge and Markovic. We could be in for some flair.

120k is a joke if true, Let's see how he does this season first. At the end of the day he had a great second half to last season. That's it. + a good preseason. doesn't merit 120k a week. 90 max imho at the moment

If he performs this season like he did the tail end of last season- he is already a better player than many on £120k pw.

It is a silly amount of money- but that's football. I think the club should offer him a performance based pay-cheque, if he keeps performing well, it could very well be £120k- but if he doesn't it drops much lower... keep him hungry.

He does deserve a contract boost but the mirror are probably exaggerating.

This. He will get the increase as standard for his performance.

Any talk of Real is pure BS, and if Sterling were ******ed enough to think he'd get anywhere near their £400m starting attack then I'd say offload him for major brain damage (and claim medical insurance from the FA for prolonged exposure to Hodgson).

Not that Sterling isn't great, but Real is more about politics, advertising and fashion than football talent since their league is fake anyway.

As usual, the problem is with Man Utd as they set the benchmark for ridiculous prices in the English market. Sterling's agent will use Luke Shaw's salary as a negotiating point.

Having said that, I cannot see us giving him that much but I do think we should do all we can to keep this talent at LFC for as long as possible because he is special.

we can do a basic contract of say 50-70k a week and maybe rest made up in bonuses to a certain amount, if it is the 120k rumuor. ie assists goals etc.

that way if he performs, he gets rewarded, bet we would see a lot more effort from johnson if that ****s wages was made up that way.

He's already much more advanced than Shaw so I can see how he could be miffed earning less.

Would paying £120pw for a top 4 clubs top player be unreasonable?

    Probably not.

There is definitely a case that Sterling could be our top player this season. Despite his age.
