    swiped straight from nufc.com:

Rumours that United were closing in on the signing of Swiss international midfielder Tranquillo Barnetta and that he was Tyneside-bound on Monday were undermined when the player appeared in footage of his current club Bayer Leverkusen beginning pre-season training.

The Bundesliga side reported for medical tests on Monday ahead of their training camp in Bavaria, Barnetta telling Bayer's official website that:

"It’s hard putting in a tough shift like that on your first day back. But that’s all part and parcel of the pre-season."

so it looks like that if we're in for him at all, he's not our first choice/immediate concern.

Im not to bothered dont think he could cope with the PL has pace and skills but tends to keep hold of the ball too long and dribble into know where, got a decent strike on him though.

I'd like to sign him, but it doesn't look like it's close to happening atm, was he really staying in Jesmond a week or two ago?

Rather N'zogbia to TB but we are gonna be brimming with left footed attack midfielders maybe go for Adam Johnson or someone of that level.

Always thought he was a strong player and didn't he score twice against England earlier this month.

nah, he's a lefty and plays on the right. If we signed N'zogbia I'd expect us to play him on the right in a similar role to Johnson

Can play either side or in the middle, would be a very useful player with his versatility.
