The tweet which started this rumour rolling today (apparently this FNN_Offical twitter account has been bang on with other Man City related rumours recently):

    Eye Of The Kippax ‏@FNN_Official

Manchester City right-back Micah Richards (26) is set to make a £4.2million move to Newcastle. #MCFC #NUFC

I seem to remember a similar twitter rumour sparking a tumble with regard to Scott Sinclair in July. When he's holding up the shirt is the time to think its happening. Whereas we need a centre back, it would seem highly unlikely we'd be looking to break the bank wages wise for a player who has hardly kicked a ball, played most of his football at right back. I think he's decent but no more than that. Don't get me wrong I'd be happy to see him come in, I just don't think he is player some make him out to be.

Not quite, Sinclair's odds never went below like 3/1 or 4/1 for us. Odds on is usually a pretty strong indication. I have said before that this is the one deal that makes an awful lot of sense. City still need money coming in for FFP, he's got one year left, is versatile and can provide competition for Janmaat as well as potentially making CB his own. Must be settled in the North, and is hardly likely to make the step to a CL club yet. A couple of years at NUFC and he might be taken on by a Man U or Arsenal. Disagree with DMW about his ability - always struck me as a very capable and powerful player. He's going to be rusty, but potentially he's better than all our current options.

Hmm I very much doubted this as I distinctly remember a fall of massive proportions. A quick google showed they did indeed from 40/1 to 1/4 with Sky Bet.

Like I say odds mean little! As someone who like a tipple on the horses, I know exactly how fickle and protective bookies are!

Very powerful undoubtedly. Quick. He has many good traits. Postional sense and reading the game has not always been one of them. Its difficult to coach it too, you often have a sense for danger or you don't. Some develop it with age like Keown did. He is better than what we have in Saylor and Mbiwa, so he'd be a good signing. I just think its difficult to go overboard about the lad. I rate Colo, I just think he has a dificult time with the like of Hairdara, Saylor, Mbiwa and Santon.

My bad. Interestingly, to pour even more cold water on this rumour, you can still get 10/1 with Betfair!!!! Shame, I though this was a realistic and decent deal for the club. As I say, unless Pardew has seen something completely different from either MYM or Saylor, it seems unfathomable that we won't be getting a defender.

I'm not sure what he has seen. They are very similar to me. The main differences are Taylor is far stronger and better in the air, while Mbiwa is quicker (particularly on the turn). Both are average in possession (passable), but read the game terribly and rush out of position without thought. Personally, I think Pardew has got obessessed with attack after not having a fully stocked one for 3 years. He is normally good at coaching the defensive side of things, and setting up counter attacking sides. But as with any position on the field, you need the players!

Huge pinch of salt, mate, given as I said above Betfair offering odds of 10/1 on Richards joining Newcastle.

Only 26 but on the downside has only played 18 competitive games in the last 2 years, of which 9 were in Premier League (or so says Wikipedia)

I have just been told that safc have had a meeting with his agent which was positive and that we have had no contact and we don't intent to do so either.

I was surprised to think fat mike would spent money on a sick note player.

I think he would be a cracking signing for any team outside of the top 5. I really rate the lad.

I never take much notice of odds though for bets like this. There's very little money gets placed on these sort of bets so a stake as low as £20-£30 can quickly the change the odds and order of favourites.

Decent but no more for me. He is not a top notcher, there were good reasons in my opinion why he was continually overlooked at international level. Each to their own though and I agree on the betting front. If you bet on the nags at all, you get a feel for how volatile all betting is! From the bookies point of view, there is no downside to slashing odds and covering their arses. They can always push it back out.
