We came out of Upton Park, in the 80's, and were lead to the Sunderland coaches by the police who promptly ****ed off. (We weren't actually on the coaches, we'd been ordered by the police to stay in the escort.) The West Ham hooligans hung back and waited, until the last few stragglers were getting on, then piled into them shouting ICF. As soon as the Sunderland lads realised and started to leave the coaches to help they were off up the street. Hated the cowardly bastards ever since.
The day we had the bother before the game, some time in the late 1970's I think, we also had a group of West Ham fans chucking rocks at the coach windows as we were leaving. A few of our lads got off the coach and caught one of them as the rest ran away. The police arrived and the coach organizer explained to the police what had taken place and asked one of the policeman if we could take the one we had caught on the bus with us and drop off in the north east. The copper said that he was very tempted to let us do this as it would be a lesson that he would never forget, but in the end decided it was more than his job was worth and settled for charging him with the damage that was caused to the coach..
The ICF regulars were genuine hard cases who would only have a ruck with them as wanted it. Unfortunately, they attracted a mob of hangers-on who liked to think they were hard, but only ever went in if the odds were in their favour. They're the ones who put me off the club. You're right there Sid, the ones who attacked the branch buses were only fit for fighting with 'lads & their dads'. Some of them had iron bars rolled up in newspapers .......... iron bars ffs
