It's really been turning to sh1t of late. I guess people will just move on, a shame, as it's been a great forum for the last few years. It's nothing to do with OT posts, it's to do with the recent influx of extraordinarily banal, pointless posts and threads.
Agree with what's been said. An off topic thread can be enjoyable especially those that encourage open chat, mass participation and the opportunity to share things. The music thread and the holiday thread, just two examples of recent popular OT threads. Hopefully when the season starts all the bickering and duller topics will vanish and we can concentrate on football and prog rock videos!
Anyway to restrict to one OT per person per month. I like the joke thread and occasionally the word association can be funny but it does seem at minute we have more off topic than on. As someone said hopefully when season underway they will cease anyway.
People should be free to post what they like. That said, there's an awful lot of crap on here at present!
Any opposition to a "Grifter's daily vegetable thread" ? I was considering kicking off proceedings with the aubergine
Are mice bigger than cows Nougat prices frozen Seven socks have been seen Joyce has gone right off prawns I was attacked by a rook News: Custard creams have changed their name to Custard Creams 2 in an effort to boost sales I am saving up for a Ferrari boat That's me done for this week
I can deal with anybody posting anything OT as long as it has genuine interest, humour or some positive motivation behind it. Deliberate "V" signs at the forum and posters are the only exception I can currently see examples of. As Stan suggests, a period of Marshall law (for a week or so to not cause too much additional work) would get my support.
I will start off with some unashamed brown nosing. For me I have been reading this forum from the switch over from the old BBC606 forum. I was an occasional poster on the old site under the name GregDeano75. I like this place as there is some really sound as fook posters here. Even when we have some bad patches so to speak I still look in. The reason why I personally took so long to join was my spelling is not to clever. I will agree that some OT subjects get way too personal and over heated. Being behind a keyboard can be a bit like driving your car. It's easy for people to forget we are talking to human beings with differences in opinion and also feelings as such. For me I respect that this is a football forum representing our beloved team QPR. There is as many good and fun OT threads as in my own opinion crappy or controversial ones. The old saying goes that people vote with their feet or in this case our fingers (keyboard's). I tend to ignore or humor the posters who I think are wumming, I know it can be really annoying for some but I just think it's sad. Let them have their five min of fame and let the most likely scenario play out, a ban. Through having OT threads and joining in I have made in my short time some sound E-friends and I enjoy the banter etc. I know not everyone will get on, that's just life. I most likely get on some peoples nerves even tho I'm not here to do that. Last word from me, I may have overused the word opinion and the reason why is it's all just a matter of opinion and I respect other peoples views. I'm no expert on any given subject. Our long suffering mods do a cracking job. If OT threads get banned I will still post but more than likely much less. Roll on Saturday I say. Peace!
Keep it as it is guys, I'm not for bringing on the "internet police" and we all have our choice to ignore or read any post. I don't post that regular as I'm on the road a lot, but I look in several times a day and there are a few banal OT threads at the minute, but I still look in to see what's going on, but then it's my choice as to whether I join in or ignore the thread from then on. Sometimes the banter goes a bit over the top and is too personal, but this isn't restricted to only OT threads, so stopping them would make no difference. We all have a common bond in QPR and should put this pettiness behind us and concentrate on supporting the team we all love. Keep up the good work Mods Roll on Saturday, when we can concentrate on football matters
I don't tend to post a lot, but do read most days to keep up with things and enjoy everyone else's view on the club and games. Off topic threads are great to, when there is actually a point to them and often make an interesting and humorous change than the footy stuff. The obvious exception is the crap that's being posted on here at the moment. If I wanted the price of cheese of offer at Asda, I'd look on their site. Can't we point him in the direction of the general discussion forum, he'd fit in well there?
For my part Nines, i think by restricting the OT threads or banning them then certain people have won over I remember the last time we discussed this and certain posters (because he has many guises) wanted an OT section which "they" could presdie over and be in charge of. By creating this section then you will have gone against the vote and opinions of the majority of the posters on here. I guess its really up to you, but personally some of the OT topics discussed espWubba's brussel Sprouts, The one i directed about posters sexuality, the suicide thread, various travel & music threads AND last but not least..Kiwi's Joke Thread, are what make this board one of the bussiets an most visited boards on this forum. We have good posters like Ric, DT, Fulham traveller and MIAMI who post (or used to) on here regularly on many subjects My vote is to leave as is as a totally football board (As is QPRREPORT) gets a bit boring after a while (Just my opinion) Keep up the good work
I find some ot,s good but we should be conscious of not posting too much. If each member can limit themselves over any given week, it will keep things in check. We certainly don't want to flood the board which can easily happen.
Im in the "Leave it as it is" camp, some of the ot threads are quite humourous, yes it gets heated now and again but the mods normally sorts it out, shame one poster has to feck it for the rest of us
Just don't reply to any of his threads, he'll soon get bored . Or just ban him and be done with it . It's the attention he craves so let's not give him his fix .
