4.00 Salisbury Captain Cat 8/1 ew

Very talented over 1m as seen at lingfield lto was favourite for the Lincoln but did not run due to the ground. Hasn't been seen since April but is very unexposed and will have to improve but nothing to suggest he won't and very much can run into a place at the very least

Fascinating maiden at L'town tomorrow evening.

JO'B rides the Coolmore newcomer,Ol' Man River instead of the stables Order Of St George whose form looks rock solid in the context of any maiden given the Group form lines. The former is truely bred in the purple and must be showing plenty at home given the riding arrangements.

Very interesting to see how this pans out.

Highland Colori 33/1 looks interesting in the Sovereign today, on the face of it his form appears to have tailed off but at 6yo he probably needed the first couple of runs. He ran really well for a long way 3rd up and wasnt far behind Gregorian and Garswood who have since ran well in Group 1 sprints, he also had Tawhid a length behind him that day, yet is double the price of that one here, id be willing to put a line through his last run as it seems too bad to be true. The interesting thing for me is that he looks a safe bet to get a soft lead in here with Atzeni on Yuften and Lee on Genius Boy probably content to sit 2nd and 3rd, and the rest best held up. I noticed yesterday that they were struggling to get to them in front if there was no pressure on the lead, and with that scenario looking likely here, Highland Colori is worth a nice punt to me, 33/1 could vastly underestimate his chances if the race pans out this way. I think this horse likes to lead and if he gets his own way he could bounce back to form.

Not sure if this thread is the right spot for this but as I'm referencing a race from Beverley today it seemed logical to add here.

My question is related to the 4.10 race which is a class 4 handicap. As I understand a class 4 race (in this case) is for horses rated between 71-85. The ATR site states that Kirkman rated 72 is 2lbs out of the handicap. Excuse my possible ignorance here but wouldn't he need to have a rating of 68 to be 2lbs out of the handicap here ? Current fav in that race Enchanted Garden is only rated 68 but no mention of him being out of the handicap ! Are the ATR OR ratings incorrect here ?

The race conditions are shown on the Racing Post website here (If you don't see the race conditions above the card, click "customise card" and select "conditions")

The weights for the race are defined as follows:

    For 3yo+ Rated 66-85 (also open to such horses 65 and below) Weights highest weight 4yo+ 10st; 3yo 8st 13lb Minimum weight 8-9, 3-y-o 8-0 Penalties after August 2nd, each race won 6lb Waterclock's Handicap Mark 85

Kirkman is rated 70 but with the 15lbs weight for age (he is a 3YO - if he were 4YO+ with no weight for age allowance he would be carrying 8-13) he should only carry 7-12. But as the minimum weight for 3YOs is 8-0 he is effectively carrying 2lbs more than he should - therefore "2lbs out of the handicap".

I too like this one today. I think i am right in saying that Balding has won the race twice in the last three years!

Bowdler's Magic would have a decent chance in this (4:10 Beverley).

Frank got another one in trouble there in the opener at HQ. The Bell yard think a lot of that filly and it should have been fighting out the finish there had Spencer not employed his usual 'hold it out the back and everyone will step aside when I want to come through' tactics.

I guess that's the known risk you take backing any Spencer mount !

I have taken a small double on the next two at Salisbury Yufton and Koala Bear.

Hagges must really like Youfton to race him in the grade he has and so a group 3 should be within his reach. Koala bear has been threatening without winning so far but I think this has resulted in a good mark from which the horse can win today. fingers crossed as my seconditus is getting acute now.

Good work Wooly - that was brilliant like watching Dancing Brave, could call it the winner from 2f out and when the button was pressed was electric, clearly a horse going places. Spencer could have won on that.
