Took a nosey around the estate being built on the old ground and pleased to see that many of roads are being named with memories of BP and the players from that era, although it had an eerie feeling as I tried to imagine as to where I was actually stood in the scheme of things. We visited the show houses and they are smart and modern but I still cannot believe that houses are built on a place I spend a great deal of my childhood, still thank you Strata for using names like Viggo Jensen which is already there although no living player will get their name there, so no Waggy or Chillo.
Hope this helps Stanley. http://hullpetitions.firmstep.com/discussions/street-naming-boothferry-park-housing-project
Steets or roads cannot be named after living people apparently. I think the Boothferry Park housing development looks cheap and the club and its former ground has just been paid lip service too. For example why isn't it called Boothferry Park ? Also many people's ashes were scattered on the pitch as were the ashes of some ex-players, I know Billy Wilkinson's ashes are on there. So what's happened to them? Is there a memorial garden of any sort? Is there anything ? I saw that a memorial and seating area is to be placed on the site of the old boulevard ground, which has attracted council funding, to honour those who's ashes were scattered on the pitch. Why hasn't this happened at the old Boothferry Park ?
My bro lives on that estate and he says there is going to be a park in the middle when its finished (think where all the plant is stored at the moment. Also the estate is called amber but it will get called boothferry park
Hope your right about the 'park' as it was part of the original plans. I think the developers dropped a blob by not naming it Boothferry Park in the first place. After all what sort of a name is 'Amber' A marketing ploy that went wrong perhaps?
Think the residents and postman still call it boothferry park it will just be officially known as 'Amber' so I reckon that name will disappear after the development is finished. Think some kind of monument is planned at well.
