Joel Campbell would be interesting, he knows how to beat English teams. Wenger said he might have a role at Arsenal this season but they just brought Sanchez in, Sonogo is pushing Giroud for the striker role and they still have Podolski, Cazorla, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Gnabry and Rosicki - plus Walcott when he's fit again. I don't really see much opportunity for Campbell while they're all still around.
My shout? Andreas Cornelius. Given absolutely zero chance at Cardiff last season with his ankle injury, they rushed him back way too soon as he was their big signing. In half a season he popped up with 7 goals in Denmark for the rest of last year. 21 and nearly 2m tall - I reckon considering the profit Copenhagen have already made on his sale-buyback from Cardiff he'll be available for less than the £8m Cardiff signed him for....
Manchester City are looking to offload John Guidetti & Scott Sinclair.Any chance of either/both ending up with us?
Guidetti would be good, he's well known to football manager players, but he did have a really good season in Holland not too long ago, don't think he got a fair bit of the cherry at Stoke last season.
Yea I know that but one would imagine if we had a replacement deal lined up the name would have been leaked by now.
Agreed, don't rush into blowing our £12m if there isn't anyone great available, a good loan could see us through to Jan window or next Summer
.... But if we let the cat out of the bag Southampton might grab who we are after and drop out of the Shane Long deal . I'm thinking OLM is correct and we have a replacement lined up
It's Deeney, when Bruce was asked after the trencin game about Deeney he must have known Southampton had made or were about to make a massive offer for Long , however ever the canny operator he denied it though indicated were had been interested, hence he rated him. Given the sums involved and the delicate nature of such negotiations to have said ' well to be honest burnsy Long is off to Southampton and we are in negotiations for a replacement who happens to be Deeney ' would have been to have put two deals at risk. Of course I might be completely wrong but we'll see by the end of the week
I'd have expected a leak by now if we had a replacement lined up, if only from a dodgy agent trying to drum up extra interest (therefore cash) for his player (and himself). Then again, there are good agents out there. They're not all tossers, like most things the worst type get more press and set a bad stereotype for the rest.
Its very possible that the Allams called Bruce to discuss the Long offer and probably made some enquires of their own to see who's available. I cant imagine Bruce or the Allams accepting an offer for arguably our best striker without having a replacement lined up. If Long agrees personal terms with Southampton I can see us announcing the replacement signing very shortly after. It might be a loan after all but we'll definitely bring someone in sharpish.
