Confirms discussions about Remy to Spurs in return for Townsend. We have been offered Dawson but turned him down.

Back in for Fer, as Napoli look to pinch de Guzman.

Along with Southampton and Newcastle allegedly interested in Shane Long from Hull, who apparently have accepted a £12m bid from Southampton for him.

Talks held yesterday with AC Milan re Taarabt.

Cheers 'SB' … good to see Long go to the Saints, means we don't have to face him on the weekend.
Also glad we turned down Dawson, looks like we returned serve on him, nice.

£12m for Shane Long? That seems a tad too much to me.

I don't think Hull want to sell, but will if offered silly money. And Southampton are desperate and have silly money to spend.

I thought the £7m Hull paid last season was high. But to be fair he defended his price by his return since signing.
£12m still seem like silly money to me, would be very surprised if Hull turned it down. They got their moneys worth and can bag a healthy £5m profit in little over six months. That's the way to do business.

Long was cup tied was he not for Hull. I am not sure he is worth 3M but then again Ruperts paid 11m for that Leeds bloke so as usual i am clueless

Clubs looking for value for money

I have said before that Townsend's game has been found out since breaking onto the scene with us ... a great England showing and he is still dining out on it? I say keep Remy as he could be a 15 million quid player easily at QPR

If I was Taarabt and played at one the world's biggest clubs then i would want to return to that stage and good luck to him as staying here in a team that promises a lot isn't enough for that calibre of playmaker and genius.

The UK footballing culture has been lost for a long time and i know i harp on about it but I stand by my words and it's not worth trying to make sense of such a fickle marketplace.

All teams want a ready made goalscorer ... it don't work like that and maybe Austin will be good enough

Agee with Dork ... Fer or the Gasman look good buys

Saints? like us the proof will be in the pudding we will find out on Sat then we are all off wading through the treacle

Napoli can offer De Guzman Champions League so we will always be up against it with that sort of opposition...

Napoli don't don't want to pay £4m loan fee for Fellaini, so not sure they are going to stump up £7m for DeGuzman - unless they loan him. You'd have thought DeGuzman would be looking for a permanent club by now. Fer would be a great option, though wasn't it said Canaries were looking for higher price for him?

Agree DT - rather have Remy over Townsend any day. Worth much more to us in our first season back and Remy has a lot to prove again after Reds snub.

I would sooner gamble 6 million on a striker than pay 12 million for someone like Long

Agree. Decent player. A bit like Doyle in his prime. Will never be a prolific goalscorer.

If Taarabt finally makes the move to Milan then I think De Guzman (who was excellent in Carlito's Way) would become more important than Fer. I'd take both but the creative side needs the focus IMO.

If we swap Remy and £12 million for Townsend (yes please at a reasonable price) and Long (not the answer) then I'm going to hide in a darkened room for the season with an old Spectrum football manager game edited to today's teams (and NOT the one we have at the end of the month) and will play out the season myself. Got to be less ludicrous than real life.
