I hope so, but as many have said, he's a Saints fan and even they couldn't sign him and they are willing to play £12m for Long! Either Burnley want a ridiculous amount, or they really don't want to sell him and will lose him at the end of the season.
It is possible though, that Southampton want a player that has got Prem experience or simply rate Long higher than they do Ings. Do we know for a fact that they were after Ings, or was it just lazy journalism linking a striker that supports Southampton to them?
Saints never actually bid for him, as far as I'm aware. The risk with Ings, is that he's had one excellent Championship season, he did nothing the seasons previous to that. He's only 22, so it might be that he's just come of age, but equally it could be a flash in the pan.
I'm not sure, it's been mentioned a lot though. That is my point, he wasn't very prolific before last season. I reckon teams will wait until January with Ings to see how he does and then there will be a fight for his signature. He's a big risk.

Saints looked at Ings as a possible replacement for Jay Rodriquez(if he goes to Spurs). Only Rhodes imo from the championship would be worth a go.
