Eh? Not exactly what Scudamore is saying...... 6 years ago it was mooted that a 39th game be added to the regular season, and this is what he still has in mind.....as an example you could get R's v Hull played in Dehli as the 39th game......
It was then and is now. A really stupid idea purely driven by money. Scudamore even helps argue against himself by admitting that 'an additional round of league fixtures may not do more to attract fans from abroad than some pre-season games that already take place.' An extra game ruins the entire concept and integrity of a league. The argument of the NFL does it doesn't hold water, because its not an extra game, if they want overseas matches, why don't they make the 1st game the designated game? At least we can then go on our hol's and watch the R's!
Am I right in thinking that it was also suggested that this idiotic 39th game idea would have extra points for the winner? E.g. 6 points rather than 3? If I remembered rightly then that would again be complete madness. Say we were 4th bottom, 5 points clear of the team 3rd bottom, and were playing City in the 39th game, we could end up going down from just that 1 game.
Judo, the whole scheme is completely rediculous and is done purely to make extra money for the favoured few.....
Could work if 20th played 19th etc all the way up, for 6 points. Makes last day pretty exciting, but no way would you want that game to be in Kuala Lumpur. Somehow I feel I have misunderstood this idea.
I think any sort of points for the 39th game would be wrong. The league is fair as everyone plays each team twice. Adding 1 more game in ruins the whole system.
