For the chumps. I was enjoying thinking we weren't your average chumps but this summer has made me learn my lesson.

Well we got to enjoy a few years of not being chumps. It was nice. I hope to experience it again sometime.

    Outside the top 7, everyone's a chump.

I agree with this. I heard Kasper Schmeical talking about the need for him to just be playing football, at whatever level would have him. I admire that, and I cannot understand why these footballers value money more than playing a game that we would all give our right arm to be paid to play. Lukaku is another one who gets my respect (pisses me off that he's earned so much for Chelski doing it though). But if Hernandez and co would rather rot on the subs bench then good luck to them. And OK he might be going to Juve, but why wasn't he pushing for such a move last year if playing is so important?
It's good we have that ambition, and if we are snubbed and end up with Shane f**ing Long, then I hope that Shane f**ing Long scores a shed-load of goals and proves us all wrong (and that Hernandez a money-grabbing little arse)

The way I see it we were dissapointed when players who wanted to leave were sold (fair enough). Then we were excited by certain people we were linked with and probably tried to sign but failed (probably because there were better/richer/more glamorous clubs interested).

We've then turned our attention to someone like Long who, whilst not being a De Ridder, Damiao or a Ramirez on youtube is a great team player who has many of the attributes I think we need and who may well allow Tadic, Pelle and others to perform better.

Admitedly, due to the timing of the transfer, we over pay for him but if overpaying for a player who improves the team/squad makes us chumps then most clubs are guilty.

Long could be a flop in goalscoring terms (although I don't think he will) and his signing doesn't fill be with excitement in the same way as other names might but anyone who watches him live will recognise his attributes and surely can see that they are something we are currently lacking.

Adam Blackmore said last night on twitter, I think it was him anyway, that Pochettino was interested in Long when he was the manager here. Still, an obscene amount of money for him.

What happened to that Slovenian (son of the Slovenian prime minister) CB we were linked with? I'm pretty sure there were pictures of him in our changing room or did I dream that? :L Has he joined the Under 21's?

Redmond? Ron Vlaar would certainly divide us.

On the bright side, you'd have to think that our remaining moves will look fairly good against the benchmark of making Shane Long our highest earner and second-largest ever transfer fee.

I don't think I could handle redmond and long, especially since norwich are determined not to sell him cheap

Considering Redmond and Shane Long, Vlaar would be a positively brilliant signing.

Least it looks like Byram has been priced out a move to us. Imagine if we signed him for ten mil. I would give McCarthy a go as back up anyways.
