In fairness, Long's record is similar in so much as he's only had one really good season, which was at Reading in 10/11. However his record at West Brom in 11/12 and 12/13 is nearly 1 in 3. His record across his career has averaged at 1:4 wherever he has been, which isn't great; but as I say he is a real pest to defenders and I have seen enough down the years to think he's a player I like. I don't disagree that the fee is too much, but we are going to get that when we bid for players just a few days before the start of the season and everyone knows we have lots of £cash atm. Long record: Reading 05/06 - 3 goals in 11 Reading 06/07 - 2 goals in 21 Reading 07/08 - 3 goals in 29 Reading 08/09 - 9 goals in 39 Reading 09/10 - 6 goals in 31 Reading 10/11 - 23 goals in 45 West Brom 11/12 - 8 goals in 32 West Brom 12/13 - 8 goals in 34 West Brom 13/14 - 3 goals in 15 Hull 13/14 - 4 goals in 15
Yep. I agree, if you can see 40+ goals coming from those players you are a hell of an optimist. Perhaps Cork will start banging them in In all seriousness though, we need someone to step up and start scoring who hasn't previously, probably JWP or Davis.
If we're refusing to sell this summer, we're probably refusing to sell in January too. He'll come back from injury and have a good season.
I wouldn't be too sad to see Morgan leave if we can do something like: Clasie in as a replacement Lennon/Townsend plus some significant cash If Boruc leaves then we're kind of back to square 1 on the keeper front, needing a backup. I like Artur and I think he is too good to be a number 2 keeper. So we'd have basically spent £10m to replace a keeper who has done well for us on a free... I know his contract was running down and maybe the truth is he was refusing to sign a new one cos otherwise that seems a bit barmy.
Decent chance he´ll be back before that. Has been running for 4 weeks now so might be back in october actually...
Can see him playing just about enough games for us that he proves to another club that he is fit again.
So we offered Burnley a decent fee. Burnley said no, you can't have him. Ings didn't complain at all or try and force a move. Just a thought Saints board/players. Just a thought.
Ummmm....perhaps that he is proven to be playing at the right level...in this case PL A mediocre striker for a mediocre club in the Premier League for too much money.
He's been running for 4 weeks now, his video he posted shows he's happy to cut and plant his foot. I'd expect him to be back October sometime.
I know we had the story of filling the club with loans to increase the wage budget for future seasons however we may as well use it on players with some end products and not those 2 who will be on a new reality show soon called 'can't cross, won't cross' They make Shaw look like the assist king. This Shane Long thing has got people starting to desperately name players that are in fact worse than Long is.
And then I'll be willing to bet he scores a few goals and Poch will come in for him in January... it's already been said that Poch spoke to him before the season even finished about him joining him at his next club. As it happens, I do like Long, just think it's a bit overpriced and I don't think he should be one of the top earners here. All that said, I will judge him solely on what he does in a Saints shirt and if he scores the winner on Sunday then we may have a new hero.
