In the announcement on the 15th June of Bilbao as one of the teams for the triangular tournament the OS said "and SFC expects to make a further announcement in the very near future."

I thought this tournament was a really good idea and was looking forward to finding out who the 3rd participant would be, I know its not until 23rd July so theres still plenty of time but so far it's been very quiet...

Anyone any ideas who the 3rd team might be or why the announcment is taking so long?

Wigan would be good, is that a reasonable source or just speculation?

It's not a huge worry because some team will be lined up, but I am puzzled why the details take so long to iron out. Also have you noticed how many friendlies between other teams have been cancelled according to SSN. You would think they would happen once they've been announced. I wonder if big clubs agree in principle, then cancel when they get a better offer?

I think the Echo stated it was Wigan. Whether the club had got to a final agreement is another thing. Also, they and Liverpool are free on the day.

I'd heard it was Wigan, too, probably from the same (unspeakable) source as the rest... that was a while back now, so you've got to assume they're having problems finalising details, otherwise why not announce it already? Doesn't make for very good PR - given there's a lot of (very bored) fans out there waiting for news...

Wigan was from the same source as Bilbao in fairness.

wow, pay to watch Bilbao & Wigan play 45 minute friendlies. I can barely contain my excitement.

Lets be honest, it's a tad naff tournament eh?

I did make this point several weeks ago. I was buried under an avalanche of people saying I was being negative and was insulting Saint Markus' memory.

Been to more than enough friendlies over the years to realise they are a complete waste of time and money 90% of the time. Only worth doing the away games, especially if it gives a chance to go abroad. However, games at St Mary's are dismal damp squibs.

I clearly won't be going to this tournament. Think the club should make it free for season ticket holders anyway. (Not free for kids, they get more than enough concessions as it is, needs to be more done for the long time loyal adult supporter IMHO).

I am genuinely depressed if Southampton fans consider Wigan a "draw".
