For anyone wondering, this has been unfolding on the hull city transfer rumours thread for a while and was first mentioned by a Sunderland fan about 3 days ago, so isn't just out of the blue, seems like it's got legs.
To be honest, this was always likely to happen at some point this window. Every club knows we rolling in dosh at the moment and. Long is presumably not a player you particularly wanted to sell, I think that probably explains the ridiculous fee. However, you have well and truly pulled our pants down so well played.
Until another forward come in looks like Saggy pulling his finger out means he's up top with Jelly with Tom Ince playing in the hole Stevie Bruce must be doing a jig tonight....If its gen....£12m..football's gone mad
Shane Long is a proven Premier League performer but 12M for a striker who doesnt score that many is ludicrous Hopefully you spend most of that on Troy Deeney so we don't
Bruce said after the Trencin game he wouldn't get him. With this money I would hope we go after someone such as Remy No thank you. Need someone with experience of this level.
I can't understand so many people being happy about this. What's so exciting about getting some money to replace him? We still have to replace our best striker. I'm desperately hoping it's bollocks.
@PJBuckingham: Aware of the Shane Long reports. It would surprise me. £12m for a player who cost £6m in Jan? Odd. Buckingham not convinced.
What a waste of six months though. We spent all that time pissing about with WBA to sign Long and now he's ****ing off.
Very odd. I agree. He's our most obvious goalscorer. Can't understand why people would think that would be good business.
Jim White for some reason has a lot of sources in football hence why Sky always use him on transfer deadline day. 12M is a great deal for you just the timing is bad with the season starting. Im sure Bruce would have had targets for every position in case he lost a player anyway. I highly doubt he is going to start looking at players now Managers have to prepare for every situation Gary Hooper wouldn't be a bad punt and it would still allow you to bring in another striker to replace Fryatt with the Long money
Hate to disappoint but you've got zero chance. He's got a release clause that's only available to Champions League clubs. He'd cost everyone else upwards of 15m along with his 100k+ wages. Plus would he leave QPR for someone who wouldn't be able to pay the same wage as QPR and for a club in not that much of a better position? I don't think so. Someone like Arouna Kone would be a good replacement.
I like him and he gives 100% but if Bruce has someone better lined up to use that £12m on then he has to go
