But the point is that he himself must have been suffering immeasurably in his own mind (to the exclusion of everything else).

At that moment he must have felt everyone, particularly those close to him, would be better off without him.

It's not selfish, it's tragic - for him, for those around him and, similarly, for anyone else caught up in chronic depression and it's sometimes terrible results.

I'm truly, truly sorry to hear that Neil.

The key is trying to understand the often debilitating illness behind these tragedies. There are only victims - those witth the affliction and those around them.

I was listening to his programme and he twice said it was Robbie Williams, he makes so many cock-ups day after day it's a wonder he's still in a job. He clearly has no idea of what a demon depression can be...

    Sorry but IMO
Each of us facing our own death and to take your own 9/10 times leaves others to deal with compounded pain usually guilt of what they could of done to help

In one of my cases I was able to save my best friend only for him to commit suicide two weeks after his first attempt ... That took years for me to sort out... But I did and I recovered from the same feelings ... It takes inner powers that only the person can conquer regardless of any help

My mother was very ill during her life and wanted to end her pain ... This was different IMO ... The reasons I mean but today I see the same result a dead person

Spreading pain is not right IMO unless everyone involved is totally comfortable in cases of terminal illness for example . Then maybe there is a argument for a controlled exit

To play the **** it card however has to be selfish IMO and words like tragic and sad are too late and just words which IMO are worthless dribble

I have faced darkness myself brought on now I see by others ... You have to find the biggest strength you can imagine and only you can do it

However you plug into that energy is the key but once charged you use it and you heal and then you help others

There will be plenty more suicides tomorrow I didn't like the celebrity who died today

...and what if you can't plug into that energy? What if you can only see a lifetime of torment ahead of you?

I'm sorry to hear about your friend too, DT.

    Look harder it cured me

There are no grey areas and no one can predict what life holds

Of course many don't see this and are now dead and can no longer comment
leaving everyone a puzzle ... That is not fair IMO as it then preys on weak minds ... In what world is that right?

Thanks for comments, lost my Aunt jan 2012 and my uncle july 2012...My Mum was ever so close to her sister, one of the reasons it was so important to be closer to my Mum in Newhaven by moving to Eastbourne from Torquay,I did not mind the coach journey to QPR,it was a better adventure than 207 bus down the uxbridge rd!!!! Alan Brazil played twice for us for those who were not aware.

That's fair enough and completely true if all things are even. The problem is when rationality and reasoning are excluded from the mind and substituted by what seems to be an all encompassing fog of pain and despair.

A healthy mind can make the logical decisions but depression is an illness, sometimes debilitatingly so.

Whatever the in's and out's of suicide, and it is a tragic subject, I just think that Alan Brazils comments are so insensitive and callous. Particularly for a public broadcaster. He doesn't deserve to be broadcasting, even if he is right about those left behind.

    RIP Robin Williams

I did two weeks inside and then 2 years group therapy and IMO Anxiety is harder to conquer for most

You have to stop the spiral thinking and break the pattern only then will you get a rest bite to take stock and even that can start another circle

The word STOP has to be fully understood before you can START

Its not an easy job, also sometimes when things are said too they can be taken into wrong context and misconstrued.

Cheers Neil. My 1st match at HQ was not until 87 when I was about 12 years old, I got the bug a bit late compared to some/most on here.

Dave, sorry also to hear about your friend.

A local old boy took me to my first home match in 78/79 season,I was only about 10,the match I remember as my first one was my sisters boyfriend was a chelsea fan so he took me to stamford Bridge, the Chelsea fans wanted me behind the terraces on the railway track as I was lapping it up us winning with Busby scoring twice and Derek richardson making debut in goal

Now they are very wise words and, as always, I admire your candour.

If you can get to that point of consciously recognising the cycles then I think you're winning the battle.

The future Mrs QPR Matt suffers from depression and anxiety (amongst other things) and I've seen her at her darkest moments.

There are times when she tells me that I'd be better off without her (and that everyone would) and I have to convince her of my own mind (sometimes easy and sometimes not). There's been a couple of times when she's barely been aware of me being there and those, in my opinion, are the most worrying.
