I heard Reed, Shaw,Chambers and Prowse all had release clauses in their contracts. Reed signed a new contract taking it out, Prowse still has his.

In which case, then the moaning at the board is unfair

*waits for "board put the clause in there" moans*

I could talk for England about footballers' salaries but I'll refrain. But that aside, if anyone signs a contract (not under duress) then they can hardly claim its unfair just because the world has turned on its axis.

As an HR Manager, I have sacked a few people (dastardly dogs one and all) but I've also had to make literally thousands of people redundant through absolutely no fault of their own. Ask them about fairness.

Footballers have a lot of protection in their work. Look at Osvaldo. In any other job he would have been sacked. However, because he is an expensive asset we are unable/unwilling to do so. Even if we had, he'd have walked into another high paying job.

JWP has the same agent as Mauricio and Adam, too.

If JWP leaves next year for 20 mill, at least that means he would have had a blinding season.

The part about leaving if you don't play a certain amount of games is a grey area but not as simple as 'i haven't played x amount of games so I can leave'. If it was than half of the big teams 'reserves' would be moving from club to club all the time.

It is to do with 'not being allowed to do your job'. In other words being available to play but not being allowed to. That is where the grey area is. It is very hard to prove that a manager is not letting you do your job because you would then have to prove that you should be in that starting 11 or you should be on the bench rather than not being in the squad. Even a top player could be kept out of the matchday 18 because 'his mindset isn't right' or 'his form is off' or 'he has an injury' etc.

As for the Chambers at CB the club must have seen this because Beefy and others have said they thought he would be a CB eventually and that the club had tried him there in the development squad on occasion. Maybe he just wanted to be a CB sooner and was given 'promises that he would be' by Wenger.

    Reminds me of van Hooijdonk:
After the World Cup had finished he discovered that the promised strengthening to the Forest squad to enable them to cope back in the Premier League had not transpired, indeed that his strike partner Campbell (who had an ongoing back injury) had been sold to Trabzonspor for £2.5m. The club had also announced that Scot Gemmill was dropped from the first team for refusing to sign a new contract, and that club captain and terrace hero Colin Cooper was being allowed to leave to the team promoted alongside them as runners up, Middlesbrough. Van Hooijdonk asked for a transfer. The club's new owners refused. Van Hooijdonk announced that he had been told previously that he could leave the club at the end of the 1997/98 season if he so wished, that he felt betrayed by the club's owners who had failed to deliver on their promises to him regarding the strengthening of the team, and that he felt he could no longer play for his employers. His employers, desperate for a striker, refused to allow him to be transfer-listed again, so van Hooijdonk announced his intention to strike. He kept fit by training with his former club NAC Breda. Because of his behaviour Van Hooijdonk received criticism both from fans and from his teammates, not least from Steve Stone and manager Dave Bassett. The club refused to listen to offers for him, as they needed a top striker and the stand-off lasted until early November when he, realising that he had no choice, agreed to return.

Probably not as damning as it may seem, considering Pochettino would probably still be here if Cortese was, and Adam gave us 18 years or something like that.

How on earth is it not ethical? Person x signs up to do y for z period of time for £££££ (yes it's relevant). I had a contract that required 12 months notice from either party to exit it and was rewarded accordingly. The only ethical issue I see here is a player prepared to take the money and then suggest they don't want to fulfil their side of the contract.

I'm not doing this again. If you weren't around for the last tedious conversation, this website has a search function.

"Spurs would pay 15m" would probably explain why we aren't budging.

It does at least tell us that the supposed "verbal agreement" was a relic of Cortese's time at the club assuming ashton has been briefed by someone with information.

I'm very happy for the board to **** on that agreement in light of this.
