Probably brought in mainly to help coach the new formation as Harry's not known for being at the forefront of modern tactics and formations.
As I said last season, Harry Redknapp is the king of 1940s football tactics. Send them out in 4-4-2, tell them they're good lads and pat them on the bum on the way out.
Quietly pleased with that. We also have a ready made successor for when TF gets bored of HR's moaning!
This. Good appointment IMO, Wally out, Hoddle in, not too many can be upset about that. I'm starting to get excited!
Forgetting the 1982 FA Cup Final for a moment (which scarred me for life), this is Great news IMO, he's a top coach. Plus, I bet him and Blackie will get on like a house on fire. EDIT: For the avoidance of any doubt and in the hope of not creating another toxic thread, just to be clear I am talking about Steve Black.
Delighted with the appointment. Hopefully Hoddle can be as influential as McLaren in the early part of last seas Things R looking up
It sounds good to me. But I hope he still has Adel and Remy so he has a couple of top quality attacking players left to work with. We are looking very short on quality going forward otherwise.
Quality addition to the backroom staff, and could be as important as signing a new player if his coaching methods prove to be as good as we all hope. Just hope he's not poached after 3 months like McClaren was if things are going well, and could be the perfect successor to Arry if he hangs his boots up at end of season
Any luck Redknapp immediately moves into semi retirement, his sole responsibility provision of an endless stream of soundbites. Hoddle.....hmmm, he's taken an interesting route, but not one to suffer fools gladly (classic story of him seeing Beckham practicing something badly and saying "no, you haven't got that skill" before showing him how to do it) and strong views, I'd never pictured him as reporting up to someone like Redknapp.
I'm not happy at all with this. He is yesterday's man. He might have been a good appointment 10-15 years ago. Besides, he is a fruit and nut case.
I'm sure Hoddle has other irons in fires, and so maybe doesn't want the full Managers position, but loves working on the pitch with players. Sounds like a great team to me. Hopefully they have at least a season long contract, so we dont get a "McClaren" situation
I'm very happy, I think he will be great. Interesting to see the reaction at White Hart Lane when Harry and Glenda appear. Still have a horrible childhood memory of him scoring the penalty against us in the FA cup.
I remember a pass he made when playing for Tottenham at LR on the plastic pitch. At first it looked like he'd overhit it, but he'd put backspin on it!
