Well done to Eastleigh who got their first ever season in the Conference Preimer up and running with a 0-3 away victory at Nuneaton Borough on Saturday.
3rd favourites to get promoted this season on oddschecker (they were pre-season anyway, not sure now)
Eastleigh fans were spotted singing “We’re coming for you” about the Skates on Saturday as now only 12 places separate the two clubs.
They will be our nearest rivals so when should do we have to start hating them!? Only joking. I've been there a good few times. Its hard to imagine them as a league club but you never know. There are obviously many Saints fans in Eastleigh but I can't see them suddenly switching allegiance.
Eastleigh v Aldershot is live on BT Sport on Thursday. Think all the tickets have sold out already. They have been doing a brilliant job with season ticket sales, but at £120 each, they are amazing value for money.
Aldershot used to have a good following when they first fell into non-league status several years back. Haven't checked recently, but they would regularly take 1500 to away games.
Eastleigh FC is a real "Roy of the Rovers"/FM story, founded 68 years ago by a few mates in the Fleming Arms pub it was in the Wessex League (9th level of English football) just 11 years ago, playing in front of one man and his dog! They have assembled a team that is 3rd favourites to win promotion to the Football League and have plans to increase the stadium's capacity to over 7,000 capacity. It is mind blowing to think that my own football team, also founded in a pub, might've ended up in a similar position.
Good luck to them, they have a couple of players that would walk into the Pompey team. Would be great to see them in the football league, just hope they dont overstretch themselves too soon like Salisbury.
I rememeber playing them in the annual pre season friendly and thinking they were well off. Would be great to host a pre season friednly against them next year hopefully as a league 2 club. The away end would be intresting to see!
St Albans City season tickets cost about the same and get you into all of Harpenden Town's games as well. What sort of attendances do Eastleigh get? Success is all about attendances at that level.
Last time I looked it up it was in the hundreds, rather than the thousands, so the only way is up. I'll have to check their website again. It would be great to see two league clubs in Southampton, both thriving.
The first 4 years of my life, I lived in Sharon Rd, Eastleigh (1960 - 1964). Then my parents moved to Bristol, but I was always a Saints supporter. Didn't really know Eastleigh had a team - but now I'm taking notice! better late than never!
Point taken. I could be equally pedantic and point out that the stadium is actually in Southampton. But I won't.
