I'm sure I remember he disappeared from the screen after Mork and Mindy due to drug addiction. RIP. Such a shame he couldn't live out a peaceful end to his life in the glory of his amazing career.
A comedy great. So so sad. I related to Mrs. Doubtfire cause I was splitting up from my Mrs at the time and I had two young children. One of his lines was "I have to see my children" and to this day that line bring a tear everytime for me. RIP Robin
"What condemnation could possibly be more harsh than one’s own, when self-pretence is no longer possible?" RIP.
"We don't read and write poetry because it's cute. We read and write poetry because we are members of the human race. And the human race is filled with passion. And medicine, law, business, engineering, these are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love, these are what we stay alive for. To quote from Whitman, "O me! O life!... of the questions of these recurring; of the endless trains of the faithless... of cities filled with the foolish; what good amid these, O me, O life?" Answer. That you are here - that life exists, and identity; that the powerful play goes on and you may contribute a verse. That the powerful play *goes on* and you may contribute a verse. What will your verse be?"
Depression must be a terrible thing. One of those things no one can understand unless they have experienced it . I don't find many Americans funny but I did Robin Williams . RIP
Brilliant comedian and his films were a huge part of my childhood, I must have watched Jumanji once a week when I was very young. Sad. RIP
Why does it have to be self condemnation? It could simply be the realisation of how horrid human beings are and the desire to escape. It's easy to fall into the stereotype that he was a sad looking comedian, but I don't think this was at all predictable. Maybe some of those who knew him personally may have had a better idea.
Odd that funny people are not funny to themselves even though they make us laugh, Tony Hancock, Tommy Cooper come to mind. RIP Robin, peace to you and your family.
As someone who has seen what mental illness does to people at close hand. It really is a terrible illness.
