Abeid and Aarons central partnership against Man City, throw 'em in at the deep end. <ok>

Disappointing as you want senior players for that one. An early test of the squad.

I'd go: Krul, Janmaat, Haidara, Colo, Willo (if Dzecko starts), Anita, Colback, Sissoko, Cabella, Goufran, Riviere
    4231

Subs: Elliot, Mbiwa, Saylor, Abeid, Aarons, Ferrerya, Obertan

Play very defensive counter attack, try to frustrate them a la Sunderland last season.

That seems about right to me. Bring on Aarons and (gulp) Obertan after 60/65 minutes to run at their fullbacks - Gouffran is bound to be knackered after chasing shadows all game. If we can get anything out of this game, we will have to have an incredible start, considering it's a virtually all new attack and essentially the same defence.

Why only Willo if Dzeko starts?

Williamson was easily our best defender last season, apart from maybe Debuchy.

Colo was in and out with Injury, Saylor is ****, Mbiwa was inconsistent.

Williamson is being treat unfairly by the fans. He's not a great footballer, but the bloke was solid as a CB last season. He has bulked up and is able to handle the stronger opponents.

I think you are reading things that aren't there Tash. My point was that Willo is particularly useful against big strong forwards. He always looks at sea when you get an Aguero type on him. In that situation I'd be maybe tempted to play Mbiwa. Really though Pellegrini likes to play two strikers or at least has a clear desire to use Dzeko.

Just to clarify, Willo is our 2nd best centre back on all known form. Saylor and Mbiwa are very similar levels of abilities and problems. I think Willo is decent and good enough to be your 3rd or 4th choice centre back. Our problem is we pay the other two clowns first team wages but don't get first team performances. We'd have been far better off flogging both, and getting two in who could do the job. I don't mind Willo, great professional and has improved massively over last two seasons. Would rate him as top class? No but he is a good one to have around. He certainly does get an unfair ride from our support. I think he is seen as a Pardew man, had a rocky spell here and there, and our support can be pretty unforgiving with such things. He has improved almost as most as much as Perchino did, but for whatever reason is not afforded the same praise.
