I said it last year in January when Austin was injured we needed a decent striker and the loan players were not up to it. We were fortunate but we got promoted. I am gonna say it again we need a striker if Remy stays and two if he leaves. I can't believe we won't deal with this before the transfer deadline closes but i am getting worried. I think it might make the difference between staying mid table and fighting relegation.
We'll get one, I'm sure of it! My reasoning is that they believe strikers are the position that require least "gelling", because they're at the very tip of a formation. Therefore it was preferable to get the defence + midfield sorted first, even if that was at the expense of an early striking addition. The Remy situation has muddied the waters too- we'd have bought Deeney a few weeks back if he hadn't returned.
We need a proper No.10 as much as a striker, no point in having a gun if you can't load the bullets...
I was seriously unimpressed by Austin yesterday...some of it was lack of service....but he really was not doing much... Mutch playing just behind the forwards, had much (sorry) more of the ball and created a few chances...one particular one completely on hos own....Austin was not looking to make chances, and when he was given chances he missed (header at the end). I realise he is a confidence player....but at the moment he realises it all on him and he is panicing
It's a big season coming up for our Charlie, he's never played at this level before and he certainly won't be afforded the time and space he's had in the Championship and below. Having said that, I've seen nothing in him to suggest that he can't make the step up. I do feel however that he needs another striker to feed off, in the Defoe sort of role. I wish we all knew whether Remy was staying or going, otherwise it's going to be deja vu on the lack of strikers front!
As Corporal Jones used to say............I have every faith in Charlie stepping up to the plate. He's scored goals all his career , yes he's up against more quality defenders but that will just make him more determined to succeed IMO . That can only be a good thing as he will want to turn it into a personal triumph , and that's a win , win . I wouldn't place too much emphasis on a friendly as they're meaningless . However , I agree that we definitely need another forward .
If we are going to give ourselves a fighting chance then we need a good spirit in the dressing room and players who aren't going to let their heads drop when the going gets tough . I can't see the Moroccan fitting into that ethos .
Saw in the Times, Harry said he knows we need a striker and there will be business this week. Deeney scored yesterday....but Watford are eyeing promotion...do not think it will be him. I think it will be a top club season long loan...any ideas
Beth, from what I seem to have been reading since we started trials is that Charlie is yet to fire. Please correct me if I'm wrong but it is a worry. One bad game we can all live with but it's been several now.
Charlie might have been told not to over do it in an attempt not to get an injury. I'd agree with the OP though, we do need more cover up front.
He's the player I want. Big, strong, confident and finishes well. I think his strength will help him in the EPL.
We have been linked today with Harry Kane of Spurs, in a deal also bringing Townsend back. Have to say I would be pretty underwhelmed with Kane tbh. He did score a few last season but he isn't someone to rely on.
